when you need to swap your turbo pressure gauge for tyre pressure gauge, it is a good thing :)

Woot woot! Got her out of the garage and moved her around. Probably going to need to replace the throttle body after all as the springs are def sticking and acting weird. Turned her around and parked her. Couple of random stupid small things, overall I couldn't be happier.

Well got her driving. Loved it. Couple of issues as usual but whatever. Drove her for a couple miles.

Funny problem though. Towards the end of the drive I started smelling fuel like CRAZY. I freaked out (with this cars track record) and pulled her over (which was at a gas station where i was going because she is on fumes). Pumped 10 gallons in her and went to leave and no start. Puffed a couple of white clouds under the car and that was it. I noticed that my 034 C4 fuel pump relay now constantly runs with no key on power. I pulled the fuse and she will sputter a bit and die. Basically she is drowning in fuel. I'm just wondering why this would happen? Think that the relay harness has a short all of the sudden (all new stuff)? I'm going to look at her but I left her at the station and I will ghetto tow or AAA her later. Just wondering if anyone else has heard of this?

Try replacing the relay itself I've had posts get shoved/jostled up into them so they make constant contact, but that wouldn't explain why you're smelling fuel... but even with the car off and the pump running you shouldn't smell fuel, certainly not while you're driving so maybe a leak somewhere?

You could have some VEMS configurations wrong (or the relay in backwards, you should post a log for all to read and recheck the wiring to the relay (El mushasho has a great DIY on this) The car sounded like it was running pretty well at cruise, and you mentioned you only had a hot start issue which would correlate with too much fuel. However if the relay is running, you were probably just dumping fuel in since key on, which yeah, would make things stinky.

Since the car is cold now, you could probably just pull the plugs real quick wait about 15 minutes to let the gas evaporate and drive home. I bet the car would start with a push start from a friend pretty easy as well.

Also CONGRATULATIONS! Must have felt amazing simply driving down the street for the first time cheers dude.

v10vt I would also disagree a bit that he wouldn't be smelling it while driving, if he was driving the car for the first time his battery was probably just reconnected and his heater would be on auto @ 74* that will make it stink quick, not to mention the air rushing in from driving.

From at least how I read it he wasn't smelling fuel and then was at the same time the continuous fuel pump running issue reared its head. Although I don't see the two being related. A leak should show/smell when the pump is running regardless of whether the car is.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the symptoms?

Yup just the relay itself. I went back when it was cooled down and fired right up and drove it home.

You got it, hit the nail on the head. Fired her right up (no funny fuel pump running with no key on) and drove her home in the same condition as I left the house. It only started smelling because thats when the relay freaked out, started stumbling right before the gas station (at the time i thought it was just running on fumes because there was no fuel in the tank) and dumped a crazy amount of fuel into the engine. It would sputter and just keep dumping. So bad that when it started it would puff out white smoke from it trying to ignite it (or maybe it was just coincidence).

Well my fitting off my fuel pressure regulator has the SMALLEST leak I found out (like 1 drop every 20 seconds). And since I do not need any 90 fittings anymore one of the spare earls straight 8ans will do the job.

So tomorrow starts another saga with getting this girl more road ready. :guns: :drive:

Well. Figured out why my fuel pump freaked out on me and now my fuel pump doesn't work. SHitty brand new relay. Just kind of sucks and another let down with these products. Oh well. Threw in a relay I had laying around and works great. Relaying my euro lights, fixing that one an fitting, and installing mud flaps.
