I have a switch to enable and disable it. Also it only triggers above 5k RPMs. If vems only had an enable above a certain tps% it would be perfect. Launch/anti lag has this which is why it might work better.

That way throttle blips for downshifts don't trigger it

haha definitely, Chris.

TPS% would be best no doubt.

Killed Alternator #2.. First one had a diode go bad and was draining the battery. Second one just stopped charging after a nice bounce off the rev limiter. I thought I had threw the belt, nope.

Good thing for Autozone lifetime warranty! Although this is getting a little old..

I am probably spinning them out of spec, anyone have experience finding a larger OAD or clutched pulley for the VW 5 rib alternators?

No help here, but how high are you spinning?

Alt spins at 18000 rpms at the stock 07k rev limit of 6300 rpms. At 8500 rpm rev limit the alternator is around 24000 rpms.

Looks like they are the same part number, bummer!

What's different between your setup and Tim's TTRS?

The factory 07ks have the dual belt system that reduces the speed slightly to the alternator. I don't use that, it's a single belt with just the crank pulley and alternator. I think it's just garbage rebuild parts more than anything. Anyone have a good low mileage factory alternator around?

Gotcha. Can you just resize the pulley to have the same speed as stock? Or is that what you were going to do and calculated that you'd have no charge at idle?

Maybe check out the GM Performance high-rpm NASCAR alternator? http://www.jegs.com/i/Chevrolet-Perform ... 0/10002/-1

Or be a baller and get a McLaren alternator:

Buy used since new is apparently ~$1800 USD

Build a 2 piece spacer for the pulley and bolt it together on top of where the belt rides. Have to be precise but it's an idea.

Looks like 18k RPMs is a standard limit: http://www.magnetimarelli.com/business_ ... lternators

Yeah, 18k is what I found too when I started this. Talking to Hank, the guys revving to 9k have not had issues, which is closer to where I am at when revving to 8200. Math above was bad, see below. 23k is still moving though, can't be good for anything :)

Stock 07K RPMS/Alt RPM
6300/15973
8200/20791
9000/22819

Jim 07K RPMS/Alt RPM
8200/23481

034 20v Setup
8500/19199

Basically I need to go from a 2.2" pulley to a 2.8" pulley to get it back into the stock range. If this is really a problem.

I heard it has cruise control now.

Been fine tuning. Was going to put on the carbon fiber hood, but the vents I want to run are $300 plus the aero latches so it is getting pushed off, again.

Yes, it does have cruise now! I mounted the stock actuator when I build everything, but was missing a way to connect the linkage to this ford TB I am using. Zip ties to the rescue. Yes, this is really the best I could come up with since it is not a standard ball, but more of a post that needs a special bulky clip on plastic piece.

Stock actuator and cc system.

Oh, I always thought the stock cc had something to do with the stock ecu. What does the cc system lose when you go to vems that it needs to have in order to function again?

On B2's I believe the only signal the CC gets is a signal from the speedo. Nothing from the ECU. I'd imagine B3 is similar.

Yea, the b3 has its own cruise control computer. I think the only signals it gets are from the stalk, pedal switches and vss.
