just curious, and you may have said it well before hand, but how the f*** did you get the head that clean?!

I'm guessing sandblasting . . .

if so I'll just return to my cement patio with wire brush and degreaser . . .

Otherwise certainly more than a comendable project! it's re-igniting my love for my first 4000 and just causing me to eye the one down the street more and more.

Keep up the good work, and p'rhaps someday my ur-quat will gairner such high praises!

peace on it

What did you use to plug up the hole on your brake booster?

nothing yet, that will get hooked up to IM vacuum through a 1 way valve :)

Hmmm... what did you do for your MC in your white 4k? I can't find any good pictures of your engine bay.

I want to remove this ^, so it'll help to stop the dreaded ticking.

i just ran the hose to the IM on the white car. i never had a vacuum pump on it. you can just run a straight vacuum hose from the IM to the check valve on the brake booster and then pull the pump off the side of hte head and pull the rod out and then put it back to cover the hole.

ahhh, two weeks are finally over :P

first thing's first, i had to bring one of my A8 rims down since this car is 5x112 now and see if a 235/40/17 would even remotely fit......

Image
Image

slight touchy touchy on the rear inner tie rod, but that's fixed with 2-3mm spacer
Image

more clearance here than with my old 7.5" ET35 and 215's 8)
Image

the fronts will fit too, but i need to rotate the steering arm a tad. otherwise, i'm pleased and will be looking for a couple more A8 rims and then ordering up some new 235/40/17 kumho ecsta SPT's 8)

this is how the car sits with 200 20v rear springs in the front, and 5ks rear springs in the rear..... high :P

ok, got some more stuff put on yesterday, the IM is bolted on for good, the knock sensors are in and torque'd, spark plugs, the remaining 5 exhaust manifold studs came in and made their way home, some water temp sensors, the turbo, etc....

hey sparky 8)
Image

i grabbed the waterneck off my 90q parts car and gave it a quick polish, not to bad for not even sanding it down or anything...
Image

coming together nicely :)
Image

also, i was going to put the wastegate bellow on and went... hmm, this is pretty ugly :P so i cleaned it up a tad and polished the ribs. it'll look sweet when the heat makes it change colors
Image
Image

the turbo is bolted on, the lines are cleaned but need to be installed, and the compressor housing need to come off as well as the wastegate cap for cleaning and then put them back. some final wiring in the engine bay, then mount the alt, front snubber, radiator, P/S pump, IC and plumbing, and then i can put a little focus on the wires that are important to making it run :D

Dude, you can't leave that wastegate looking like that with everything else so nice and pretty! Get to work on that will ya!

But the rest looks fantastic.

Posted: Sat Mar 31, 2007 8:02 am
by s2 on the way
it'd be sweet if the wastegate was powdercoated black..........with a red turbo housing,,,,wait, that would be biting rj with the housing.....
but the turbo side needs to be matching since all else is so pretty and perfect....
would the downpipe and headers take to powdercoating and hold with all the heat?
looks great.......
