I got my fuel into the .78 lambda area at WOT and full boost (25 to 27 psi max). This is with the w/m injection and stock IC. Now for another question.

For those of you taking logs (love my rooted asus me70cx tablet), what intake temps are you encountering and find acceptable? When did you decide to upgrade based on these figures? I'm seeing about 10 to 11 degrees above ambient which is anywhere between 30 and 55 F right now with the winter here.

Thanks!

That's cold lol. The w/m is surely helping a lot. You can take it to .8 lambda safely.

My iat sensor was wonky and reported about 10*c high. The lower the better, if you can stay below 50*c that is ideal

Cool that's always a good compliment for an intake :)

Did you go to the 1.8t sensor though? My stock one wasn't reading quickly enough with the methanol being introduced.

Yes I was using a 1.8t sensor, which VEMS was setup for. Just weird but once I knew, it was fine.

You can adjust the scale of the sensor... Anyway, yeah your intake temps sound fine. I use the 1.8t one as well.

Thanks guys. Just one of a thousand things to check up on with the old beater/sleeper. As hard as I'm spinning up this poor k24, maybe a pre-IC temp reading would be enlightening. BTW I smoked a Pontiac grand am from a light tonight 8-) That's what the guy gets for being in the fast lane that must merge right 20 feet after the light. Maybe I'll have chance vs my brothers e46 m3 after all! :woohoo:

Haha good luck! I had some fun in my dad's S4 (APR Stage 3) against an E46. Though I did win, it was closer than I thought. Granted, I was loaded four deep, but still. Them's quick!

Maybe you'd have a chance if it was a 20v

Oh wait, it is! Oops.

Oh boy. Ya know I want to show him the car is quick especially since he keeps telling me to ditch the 5k and 200 for something newer. He helped me out at a very difficult time though (with the 200) and I don't want him to suddenly regret it when I slowly pull ahead of him LOL.

Another question. Anyone successfully wrap the 3B intake manifold or do you all mostly, if at all, just thermally coat/paint them?

IMO wrapping the intake manifold will just hold heat in the manifold and it wont dissipate. I'd ceramic coat the exhaust manifold if I was going down that path, but leave the intake mani alone.

I wouldn't do anything to either one honestly. I did have my intercooler piping wrapped though to shield it from the exhaust manifold heat.

The best thing for intake manifold temp is a phenolic spacer. Not really necessary though.

Well I'm leaving the IM alone because that all makes total sense to me.

I ordered an eBay turbo blanket and got this 80A relay for the 200's coolant fan to replace the non-resettable fuse that blew once last summer. It never happened again after I shielded it from the coolant fan escape path but this will be easier to use if theres another fuse failure. 80 amp obviously.

Will my use of a turbo blanket mean I'll need to drive the car longer to cool down the turbo before shut down?

Well speak of the devil. Wonder how long that's been bad lol

For reference that's the fuse for my fan I've been mentioning

So you've blown multiple fuses for that fan? Ever thought maybe the fan or wiring is shot?

This is only the second time it's happened but the first time it was about 90 F out and the fuse was exposed to alot of heat from the fan running. I put up heat shielding tape all over it and didn't have another problem until now so that made me think it was all the heat under the heat contributing to the fuse heating up more than what it was already getting from the curcuit's amperage. I thought I read on sjm that an aging fan could blow the fan occasionally as well. Now it won't turn on even after installing the fuse thing so I guess I'm going searching.

Ya so this ebay fuse is garbage. Get what you pay for and for $10 I got a brittle plastic thing with little spinny bolt thing and metal. Broken but thank God I haven't left feedback yet. Everything works again but I put an 80 amp fuse from autozone in there until I find something better.

Small piece of copper pipe cut to size. Just write 80 amps in permanent marker on the top. Gtg.

I don't spend enough time here...

Welp my $30 ebay turbo blanket was total trash and I had a feeling I might get what a paid for lol. I paid off my VEMS ecu a couple days ago so that got me to thinking what blanket I might get if I could afford one now. Enter PTP lava T3 blanket. Exit underhood radiant heat mayhem :) It is most excellent

The crap one is going on the 5k since it is still kind of in one piece. Not 100% loss I suppose.

While I was out breaking in the blanket in bad traffic a fellow in an SUV recognized the 044 chassis and asked if it was a 5000 like his 1986 he wrapped around a telephone pole. I shed some light on things and we quickly discussed how robust these cars were. It was a refreshment compared to people being glued to my bumper with zero concern for bodily harm of either of us. The guy told me his white 5000 broke the phone pole in half and he drove it to the scrap yard right after lol. Love these old tanks

No joke schwagen just asked me about that zip tie cluster f###. It's to retain the turbo inlet hose that I don't have a spare of. You know, the black michelin man hose bred with a piece of macaroni? lol yes it's NLA. Problem is my giant k&n Tahoe filter's weight is distorting that poor hose. I've got its back

lol I'm pretty sure I used to have the same setup.

On second thought, I guess it was a little different. Here is a picture from my first few months of 200 ownership :D

Geez I actually remember seeing that long ago and laughing audibly about the zip tie comment. For me imagine the MAF is gone and a filter as long as your MAF and filter combined is in there instead. It was the biggest k&n I could find at autozone many moons ago in my first years of ownership of the 5000. Has served me well. "Great minds" chris lol. I would really like to fin a reasonable replacement for that hose. I guess I'll be looking at 034 in the foreseeable future. I think I saw some viable options there.

Great minds indeed. I'm sure there must be some way to do it with silicone reducers. Or maybe make your own custom silicone hose? Can't be that hard, right?...
