are you running a chute from the get go?

I think i read somewhere they have a stock gearbox but kept blowing up 1st, so they decided to launch in second. I wonder if that is true?

damn 9.2
I think thats the fastest I've ever seen a quattro.

:woowoo:
He always gets pretty squirrely on the top end....

guess your wider rear track will help keep you pointed straight

too bad you already had the front fenders painted, or I'd say have them "pulled"... I know I know... its uber 'dub-tastic... but it would give those meats a bit more room if need be...

race car only, no "show-car" mods for me. i still make my stuff look good but not to that expense.
i read that too, about 2nd gear launching.
no chute i think until 150 MPH and/or 9.99.
and one thing i noticed about Paavolas' car: he is still running an 01A trans

watch the inside video a little closer, look at the shifter. that looks to me like the one i took out of the car.... 01A, correct? no wonder they keep breaking trans.

that was my thought when I saw the shifter, def looks like an 01a shifter, but I cant believe that it holds up to that at all. Maybe the s2 01e has a shifter that looks like an 01a from the top?

not that i have noticed. they operate totally different.
the 01A has the shift mech pointed out the back of the trans. the 01E points out the driver side.
i dont think they work with each other. i originally had the solid short shifter for the 01A trans sent to me after a mixup with what was needed. i think we got confused when i said i had a coupe quattro (01A car) and a UrS4 trans (01E trans) and we thought to match the car not the trans? and no way it would work with the 01E setup. but i got the right one in the end, and its quality part....

that makes me happier about my choice to stick with an 01a for a bit. :-D

Chris, you have an 016
That looks like an 01A shift ball setup BTW.

I am running an urs4 01e with my stock 01a shifter, with an s2 linkage to the tranny.
One thing I can tell you, power shifting my previous 01a's was soooo much nicer... I cant shift nearly as fast with the 01e. maybe has something to do with my shifter setup... I will soon convert my linkages and shifter to a full b6 s4 setup, then upgrade with jhm's stuff. Then we'll see how it shifts.
If I'm not happy with the results, I may beef up an 01a and go back to it.

i know what you mean, the 01a just shifts so nicely, I never liked the feel of the 016 or 01e compared to the 01a. To bad they are weak.

hmmmm. i got an S2 linkage sent over from England. its here somewhere. has the shifter as well. but you (Mike) must be using the 6-speed linkage? two arms?
nonetheless, mines done, and playing in the car it shifts fine. the other week i did some power shifting in the Lago street coupe, and it shifted just fine under my tortures. it shifts better than the rabbit for sure.
and i think the setup is B5 S4 01E linkage, with the arms shortened just a little. from all my searching that is....

aaron....i bet anything shifts better then those junk 02j's :-D

I think I can make any 6 speed linkage work fine, I got my hands on a b6s4 setup already, I'll fool around with that as soon as I am done with my current project (2.8 heads, and forged rods) and see from there.
Right now, I am using only one arm setup... so switching over to the more recent setup may help just because of the second arm... who know how much my drivetrain shifts in between shifts.
Even an Urs4/6 shifter doesn't feel right. I think the key to the nice shifting in the 01a is the direct linkage into the trans. No pivots and such...
I really dont care how the shifter feels while just driving, just need it to be good for power shifting. For example, i hate the way 020 trans shift while regular driving, but for power shifting, it's the best. As opposed to 02a trannies, they feel so nice with their cables, but I cant power shift them as well as 020...

Doh, I get confused with all the number codes, etc.
016 is the second strongest next to 01E no?

ugh don't get me started on 02J's. I couldn't shift mine for shit! Anything over say 6k and it was useless.

who know how much my drivetrain shifts in between shifts. that could also be a factor for you. mine is 100% solid mounted, motor and trans.
Even an Urs4/6 shifter doesn't feel right. that is what i did, the stock UrS4 shifter setup, and made my own tunnel and mounting for it.
I think the key to the nice shifting in the 01a is the direct linkage into the trans. No pivots and such...very well could be. like i said, power shifting the street car 01A worked out just fine.
I really dont care how the shifter feels while just driving, just need it to be good for power shifting. AMEN!!!!!

i know what you mean with the 020/02A setup. one thing that really helps the 02A out is to use 02J Shifter and cables and shift tower. made alot of difference on the rabbit. thats what is next for me: i had another trans built, with the best ratio for drag concerning the gears. also did another Peloquin LSD at this time. and 4.24 R&P. but one of the things we are trying with this one is the fact that we have no syncros in it. and even half the syncro teeth are ground off the gears themselves. it is supposed to help in the upper rpm ranges for shifting. we will see very soon. you will know it worked out for me when i post up a huge
10 SECONDS 1/4 MILE RABBIT RUN thread LOL.

I've heard about people having GREAT SUCCESS! from grinding off the syncro teeth. I probably would have done that on mine if I had kept it.

ya, Chris. you probably know one of the guys... Brien (radoboy) has done it and reported success.... local to your area. not sure if Andy (hypothetical) has done it yet.... but a few other serious guys on VWPoortex have as well.

Yeah, I have never met Brien, but we have talked a few times about this and that. In fact, that might have been where I heard of it first. If not from him, then probably from Andy.
All I know is that I just wish there was a cheaper, more bullet proof option than a built O1E as far as transmissions are concerned.

Heh second gear launches are though I did try to do that with my car when 1st gear went, it was bogging down even with 30psi@4krpm and it felt like something else in a drive line will explode,
