That could be, Ill ask Casey how he oriented them when installing. Here is the catch can/ccv set up. Although now I have the two lines going to BMW oil air separator's
I was told my my friend Ivan that i should not be venting out of the VC but only the block and he suggested doing what he on his 4ktq 20v where he had the return to the oil pan above the oil level. im still waiting on pics of his set up....

Pulled the piston rings today, seems to be some buildup behind the oil ring, does this look normal? Also the oil ring seems to be smaller in diameter than the middle and talk ring. Normally the VW/Audi oil rings work great and I do not change them, but think I may change these over

Pulled the rest of the Pistons and rods tonight, cylinder walls on three and five look scored.

Found that the top ring was broken in cylinder number four. Looking to purchase rod bearings and the ultimate crankcase breather vent adapter from Marc at EFI express

How deep is the scoring? Tough to tell but looks like it should hone out without requiring a full rebore?

Soaking the pistons in seafoam to clean them up, seems to be working well

There is definitely some build up in the ring-lands, especially the oil ring. the severity seems to correspond to the leak down #'s. dosent want to clean up with the nylon brushes, will have to look up best way to clean w/o damaging pistons

Bill, I have a piston ring groove cleaning tool, works pretty well. Looks like this.

Gave a shot at ball honing tonight. Used A flex hone 240 grit , my first time. Hatching pattern is not perfect, but more alarming is these two scratches on cylinder three and five…

Can you catch your fingernail on those? I mean, they are going to effect compression and leak down, but hard to say how much. Looks like some rings were not de-burred during the gapping process.

Not sure, I did not assemble motor, I figured it would effect a bit. I plan to just run it and build good breather.

I never did figure out for myself the exact proper way to set up an aftermarket catch can ...
do you have a source of vacuum pulling through it to the intake ?
My car project isn’t running yet , At the advice of some others I have set mine up to collect everything and I will drain it myself rather than running it directly to the pan .
Some were finding some pretty weird milky substance in there that they didn’t want ending up in the pan so I figured I would run it for a bit and see . Maybe someone more experienced on here has some advice.

That milky substance should be an emulsion of water vapour in the oil.

Installed piston rings tonight, also looked at the oil pick up tube. Found a lot of little plastic pieces. There were quite a few more than even in this picture…

Those plastic pieces are pretty common. I'd bet they're the remains of the cam splash shield that sat under the oil fill cap. They pretty much all disintegrate eventually and end up in the sump.
