Derek, I am so jealous of your fabrication skill.

What are you going to do to re-seal that metal? Audi galvanization is hard to beat!

RUBBING RUBBER...???

I AM USING A 205/45/16 16X7.5 RIM WIDTH WITH A 38MM OFF SET AND THEY STILL RUB ON THE INSIDE OF THE WHEEL WELL, THIS EVEN AFTER THE FACT I CUT THE LIP BACK WITH A DIE GRINDER. I THINK THE FACTORY REAR BODY PANEL ON THE DRIVERS SIDE, IT IS JUST THAT MUCH TIGHTER THAN THE RIGHT SIDE WHICH WAS RUBBING A BUTT HAIR UNTIL I MASSAGED IT WITH A LARGE MALLET. THE DRIVERS SIDE IS NOW OUT AS FAR AS I CAN GO WITHOUT DENTING THE OUTER PANEL FROM THE INSIDE OF THE WHEEL WELL, THE LIP NEVER WAS TOUCHING FROM WHAT I CAN SEE, BUT THEN AGAIN I CUT IT BACK BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY.....

Project is looking great Derek!!!! You need to get the car up here, I am dying to get to see it. BTW, don't forget the 20v breather hose, when you come back up north. ;)

when does it rub? in hard corners? with a load? i noticed that i had wheel rubbing with my old 215/40/17's in hard corners with the original rubber control arm bushings. i replaced them with delrin and that all stopped.... i also had 400lb springs on all four corners, so it didn't compress too far :P

another update. it's intercooling time 8)

mm, silicone

brackets to hold the IC in place...

mounts in action

i cleaned the IC by dunking it in the chem dip to get the 2 layers of factory porsche paint off. some kind of green primer, and then the silver paint. you can't have an IC in porsche without it looking pretty  after it was all cleaned, i put a few light coats of black paint on it to make it subtle :D
Image

man, it hangs in there nice!
Image

it's still a tight squeeze though

don't even know it's there ;)

i'm really happy with the new ride height :)

Looks great; nice and subtle. :-)

Where did you get your silicone hoses?

ARe you going to cut out the plastic in that corner grill so there is some airflow or are you just going to leave it?

Sweet! That intercooler came out great. Nice use on the bushings too, I used those on my last exhaust revision. I think I'm going to put my new fat fives on the yellow car, if you don't mind. :P

brilliant! ;) of course i'm going to trim the grilles out. i'm also going to duct the IC so the air can't escape going through it.

Jim- go for it! you might have a hard time fitting the A6 fat 5's on the back of your car though with the stock 90 fender lips. these rims are from an A8 and have are an ET48... not ET35 like the A6 4.2.

RS Coupe- i got my silicone hoses from these places...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 8074767045

and this place (which has great prices on T-bolt clamps BTW
http://www.siliconeintakes.com/

okie dokie! i finished up cutting out the grille area's for airflow to the IC, but i still need to build some ducting to it so the air can't escape around it. it'll be much more effective that way.
Image
Image

another thing i had to do was replace the rear output shaft seal on the trans as it was leaking just sitting still :o . that stupid little seal is almost $40 too! when i pulled the housing off, i was spinning it in my hand and noticed it was rather grindy... :bashtard: soo i ended up replacing the tailshaft bearing and all was good then.

i also was thinking of making an adjustable upper strut mount so i could relocate the top of the strut rearward to compensate for the wheel moving forward with the spindle swap... but instead of rushing it this week, i think i'll stick everything back to stock for a short while and build a much nicer setup. you might ask why build one when i could go buy something... well, that's because i would like to used the stock style upper strut mount with my mance mount savers. plus it's cheaper to make the stuff out of steel than to pay for CNC'd billet steel stuff :P

here's what i made so far...
Image

Image

my dad still has some of his equipment from his racing days.. so i checked some of my current settings 8)
Image

my car has 1 degree of castor, which is the top end of the factory spec... otherwise zero degrees is normal :o . i hope to end up with about 5-7 degrees once i'm done with my strut mods.

the other thing i had to do was shorten the tierods from the steering rack because of the relocating of the steering arms on the struts being moved inward... and with max inward adjustment, i still had probably 3/4" of toe out :P so i just cut the arms, made an insert, drilled some holes for plug welds and then had them TIG welded. i cut about 1.5" out of each side... and i think it was a bit much as i'm now at the other end of the spectrum :P almost max outward adjustment and the wheels are just barely even with each other.
Image
Image

one other thing i've been trying to figure out is where to put my crankcase breather container. over the weekend jeff (larryflint) stopped by with his 3.6 v8 powered 4kq and his new cage for me to check out, and he suggested putting my breather tank in front of the radiator... which as it turns out, is a great idea :D thanks jeff

and this is for cool points 8)

that's it for now :)

Wow.

Great work, impressive how clean the result is.

I'm really jealous of the rust-filtering lens you used for the undercarriage shots also....

:stupid:

not a lot of guys would just whip up a set of adjustable camber/caster plates because they can (because they can't)

now that LarryFlynt has a roll cage he can drive with all 4 wheels in the air :woowoo:

Going to run the oil cooler lines under the oil pan Derek?

they're gonna curve around the front higher section of the oil pan so they don't hang too low.

This is how I have mine, so far so good.
