Wouldn't fabbing in threes make more sense? I'm going that same direction also and it would seem ashamed if only two items were made and you got left out Marc.ShavedQuattro wrote:want me to start making twos of everything Marc?

Somebody help me!! I am looking at paint colors again. I am falling out of love with the aviator grey
<cheers erupt from the back of the forum>
Top of the list is probably Abis White
Port Rose has crossed my mind again recently..
And I always like Silvers too.. Avus silver is kindof neat.
I like Tornado red, but dont want the police attention. I also have a spot in my heart for the stone grey in the late 80s.
Anyway, if you felt betrayed last time, speak up now or forever hold your peace!!!
Oh and the aviator was expensive.. .So it is going on the 4kq vr6 car. Sorry guys, I just cant throw the paint out!!!

Hank,
May I suggest Stone Grey... love that color on Ur-q.
Second choice Port Rose, especially since it is an early Euro car.
Hope this helps.

I did like the 5ktq we had in Stone grey. It has always been on of my favorite colors on a german car. You know they all should be silver, but that darker version just looks good. I think that the pictures that you posted of the Port Rose car is the first time I have seen the total car in that color. It looks better than trying to imagine what it would look like by seeing your engine compartment all cleaned up to Port Rose before you painted it Aviator Grey. I think that the Port Rose was the only color that wasn't represented at the Urq25 event in Colorado and there were about 35 urqs there. It really is pretty unique, but you would have your hands full to go there if you are planning on an engine bay color change also. One thing about the Aviator Grey in the engine bay is that is a pretty neutral color if you aren't going to be color matched to the car.
White would probably be the easiest and would cover the most imperfections, but I vote for the Stone or Gun Metal Grey.

I used to have a port rose urq and I don't think it's as nice in person. Granted it was a really rough car which didn't help.
I wanted to paint it a color I saw on a Rallye Golf, it was a blue-ish metallic with a little green in it, a seagreen myabe -hard to descrbe. I don't know if it was a factory VW color but of course it prolly wasn't a factory Audi color.
Other than that I think white is

White looks great keep it that color. i still think you should push the flares out a wee bit.
Pulling the motor isnt hard with a lift now. I could have the whole drivetrain out in under 2 hours with it on jackstands, now it should be even less.
I have pulled the fenders quite a bit on this car. Just with a roller I was able to get a bunch of love. This is part of the reason I want to paint soon, as the rears need paint after rolling them. THe PO must have paid 200 dollars to have the car sprayed before. The paint is on So thick it isnt funny. As is, I am able to put 265s with little problem and a bunch of offset. I dont think I need much more then that in this car as a driver/occasional road course car. I am searching for a good 17x9 wheel at hte moment that is light enough. I wish they made good 245-45-16s for my BBS wheels, but they dont.
I think the stone grey is what I am leaning toward ATM. Port Rose would be cool to say it is original, but hard to swallow in the driveway every day.
i'll dig up some more pictures a little bit later.

Alpine White is great, so is Graphite Metallic (4kq color). I like Stone Grey, but I guess I havnt seen it in "nice" shape in person for a while. Looks good on some pictures Ive seen.
Oceanic Blue is a new acquisition of mine, but it may be a bit "loud" for the Urq?

Alpine white just doesnt seem white enough compared with abis or other retna burning whites out there. I like the car white, but if I paint, the 2-3mm of paint is coming off first, and that will leave no trace of white on the car.. I will probably strip everything with chemicals, media blast the removeable panels(trunk doors, hood, fenders) and then take the rest down to the base port rose. At that point, any color works well.
I think Davids car was gun metal if I'm not mistaken. I liked how it was so dark yet still silver/grey.
Three WAY good reasons to stay away from black. I wish you would have had that wisdom that a few years brings when you were in high school and made me paint your shaved 5ktq black. It did look good though I must admit. If I didnt have to wash it myself, paint it myself and had AC, black it would be..
