Come to think about it, traction control on the bosch units needed the electric throttle control to control torque. I will have to delve a little deeper to see what is up. I dont believe any s6 cars had trac control, the EDL might be a possibility.

Yeah, AFAIK that's something a bit unique about the UrS6... it had EDL (which is darn near the same thing as traction control, right?) but no electronic throttle. I've never seen an AAN engine with anything but a cable throttle body.

Message to Hank Iroz from Eric: :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated:
Does anyone remember back in October when I posted about getting in touch with Hank, because he'd had my Volvo K24 exhaust housing for a month and I wondered when he'd be done and get it back to me?
Well guess what, it's now January and I *still* don't have the freakin' thing back. I email him every few weeks but haven't gotten a response since early November. Supposedly the machine work on the housing is done, but in order to work it actually needs to be attached to the turbocharger.
Is anyone in contact with him, and if so can you give him a kick in the a$$ for me and ask him to send my housing?
Thanks!

Hey I don't know if any of you guys contacted Hank but if so THANK YOU! He just emailed me and says that possibly maybe he'll be shipping my housing out today.

Yeah, but 3+ months to turn around a job that takes maybe 2 hours? Plus you think he'd want to get paid.

Changing the subject yet again... something interesting happened last night.
A few days ago my heater fan motor started making noises like a tortured pig so I ordered a replacement. The replacement is an updated design with power connections underneath rather than on the back of the motor (as installed). Otherwise it looked pretty much the same... here's an image of the exact item:

Edit: a little research shows that's a B4 fan, but the vendor (and others) claims it's the right part for the car, and it does fit perfectly other than...
After removing the glovebox and some cursing until I realized you have to detach the motor from the backing plate to remove the unit, I got the new one in, hooked up, and tested. Then I went to reinstall the glovebox.
The glovebox barely fit in, and when closed it seems to be hitting something that's trying to push it to the right (toward the passenger's door). I'm guessing it's hitting the blower motor although I'm not 100% sure since it's very hard to see the area in question.
Has anyone else had this experience?

Maybe you should have just bought that k26 housing from me :dur: Thats ok though, Im on the look out for a VK24 myself. Atleast this way, I will still have the housing.
As for the fan, I cant really help on the fitment issue. But if you feel it is too bad, let me know, I have a spare(or 2) I can ship up to you.

Gah... it's a week and a half later, still no housing, and no response to an email inquiry.
I guess I can only hope the thing shows up before internal-combustion engines are outdated. :frustrated: :frustrated:

Wow, this is messed up. I know he is a busy man, but come on. If you say something is ready to ship, then ship it! Don't let it sit on the shelf and rust.

Yeah no kidding. I could completely understand if he didn't have time to do the work, or if the job was too small to be worth his time. But he says it's already done... so stuff it in a box, slap a label on it, and give it to the postman or UPS guy or whoever! It's not that hard.

I haven't sent him any money! In a number of emails I've asked him how much I owe, and haven't even gotten a response to that question.

Hey I'd really appreciate anything you can do!
I really hate going public like this, but I've tried every other means of communication available to me and it's gotten no results.

Have you tried at the project pad or on facebook?

Well, I don't have a Facebook account (and with their privacy issues, I don't want one) so that's kind of out.
Project pad I had a lot of trouble signing up for but finally got it to work. Maybe I'll try PMing him there...

Okay there may be a glimmer of hope... insert joke here about light at end of tunnel being an oncoming train...
I just got an email notification from Fedex that a certain Hank Iroz is sending me a package!

First time posting on the geek in over a year, probably not the best place to vent public if you are going to vent... but I can understand your frustration.
Obviously the money wasn't the issue, as I still haven't asked for money. Time and time again I offer to do stuff for people out of enthusiast in me wanting to help people out. If I built a business out of machining k24 housings out for volvo turbos, I would go out of business a year and a half ago. Sure, I set it up as a quasi business transaction, but no invoice was sent, no Iroz Motorsport quote was issued, ect.
So yes, you housing and rebuild kit did go out. The hold up was not the physical housing being complete, it was the desire on my part ot actually test fit it to a 7400 CHRA and double check my work. I didn't have one over the last couple of months, I got one in this last week. I took the time to get it fitted and it fits like I expected. I will probably get nasty grams like yours tomorrow morning as to why other customers didn't get tracking information like you did, but I am glad you are going to closer to driving your 80tq instead of taking the bus. :woowoo:
Good news is we hired another hand this last week and will probably hire another in another month. Tons of growing pains from wearing a thousand hats in a small business as most small business owners can attest to. I am sorry Eric!
Regards,
Hank
PS.. Housings don't rust in Vegas, it is pretty dry

Hank,
:thanks: 10, 100, 1000 times THANK YOU! :-)
I completely understand you being busy, and very much appreciate both your taking time to check fit and getting the rebuild kit. If you'd just let me know what was going on, I would never have said anything here or elsewhere!
And I also appreciate very much your willingness to take on small jobs like this. I know they're not nearly as profitable (if at all) or interesting/challenging as most of the other stuff you do.
I am SO looking forward to trying this thing out. I think I've got all my other ducks in a row to make this install happen quickly and smoothly... and I'm equally sure I'll find out otherwise once I start.

Persons: I am most happiness to announce reception of turbocharger machine!
Oops, for a minute there I thought I was in China writing an instruction manual.
So Santa Claus showed up today disguised as a Fedex guy. He delivered my machined exhaust housing, and a rebuild kit for my Volvo K24 from Hank! :-) :-) :-)
Here's the item in question:

In addition to the internal machining, he cleaned up the inlet and outlet flanges, and I think he must have sandblasted it or something because almost all of the rust is off it (even though it doesn't look that way in the photo).
I do have one question for those who have done this before: getting the oil feed line to clear the bypass valve on the Volvo K24 - is that a slight tweak to the line, or do you have to bend it within an inch of its life?
If the oil line would have to be bent enough that weakening is a concern, I might get some of those spiffy AN adapters 034 sells and make up a whole new oil line. But there's a considerable cost to that, and I don't want to do it unless I really need to!

Did Hank have anything to say about our discussion on the width of that inducer "slot" on page 27?
