yes. the crank was rubbing on it... there is evidence of a couple other mains having some SLIGHT rubbing, but nothing like #3.

thinking it thru more, it would have only happened when i pushed the clutch. its on the FW side of things. and when i push clutch, pressure would move the crank to the t-belt end, rubbing the side of the crank on the main bearing cap and engine block.

its a good little groove, BTW. but not into the bearing race....

Ugh...seems like just a simple bearing replacement job once you figure out exactly why it happened and fix that no?

thats what i hope. just wondering if the groove worn into the main cap and block area is going to harm it in any way....

i think not, but i think too much sometimes, and not enough in others. i think since it did not get thru the bearing side load wise, it should be ok as the thrust portion of the bearing will be the same.

Why not run the different trust bearings that are not one piece. I was going to get those for my motor but i heard they where not as good :?

i put a set of those in, Pete, to try it out and see. and the crank moves side to side no more it would seem. i dropped it all off at the guy who built my head for this car. see what he says. he has to put the manual crank in it anyhow.

if its no good, just that much farther back i push it off is all. my backup block will need bored to 82mm, as that is what i have pistons and rods in the motor already.

took the rabbit back to the rabbit hole. now i have some room to WORK! still plugging away at it. spent yesterday moving the lifts for Joey (DJM / head builder) from old shop to the new one. and he is gonna get everything ready to go for the pink motor.... just waiting on the big motor so i can get the flywheel off it and send off for balancing.

AND:

Repoman (Don) is painting the WHOLE CAR next saturday WOOHOO!!!!!

i am hoping to have this thing going soon.

i am shooting to have this as ready as i can. maybe i wont get it 9 sec ready.

i have a game plan....
A: run it nice and easy, get it down the track logging AFR, etc.
B: 2nd run get it down the track hitting BOOST! in 3rd, coast finish. log and check.
C: launch it, and run 2nd hard, hit BOOST! in 3rd, coast finish. log and check.
D: HIT IT HARD!!!!! (and hope i get kicked off the track :) )

that is if it holds up. LOL. it should.

but its gotta look good as well as go good. going solid, not black topped two-tone. unfortunately i have to buy all new paint supplies, oh well. its ok though. i am hoping the guy mixing the paint makes it more like the first color than the second color.... kinda liked that burgundy/copper color really. it grew on me i guess. but the 2nd color is fine too.

why would you get kicked off the track? it seems safety ready to me...

> 135 requires an NHRA license, which also requires stuff like Janis found out. AND, things like window net, fire suit, higher level jacket than i have. i got gloves already.

also requires the chassis to be Certified. and a physical for driver. and lots of other stuff.

and all that takes time which i do not have. i will take it easy a couple tries then try and go for the GOLD!

but it would be safety ready for 10.00-10.99 and under 135, yes. its the 135 up that worries me.

ya man....the 135 trap might happen with a hard 1-2-3 and a coast with this monster setup.

speeding-g60 wrote:oh, i picked up the lexan for the windshield. extra from the job i am doing.... 11' x 4' x 1/8", so i have a couple tries at it.

just have TPS and VSS to wire in on the harness. all else is P-n-P. VSS takes a reluctor interface, its in the mail. done

both door bars and driver side sill bar need done.

need to run and terminate the sender units for engine monitoring stuff. figure out brake lights maybe. thats low priority though.

make a sunroof delete panel, PRE PAINT! mine blew off on the freeway. prob lexan.

make lower mounts for radiator.

finish plumbing oil cooler lines.

cooling lines need done.

have clutch line made.

need to figure out rear calipers for e-brake. Derek says i can redo the park brake things. gotta take that apart to see.

gotta wire in the driver window switch.

wire in the fan and fuel pumps.

need to mount and wire the rear cutoff switch and wire the front circuit breaker. then wire in starter and fuse box/relay plate. just need starter now.

gotta make a hanger for the exhaust, when its back on the car. i want to make a beauty plate to fill the oversized hole they put in the fender for it.

gotta take it to get aligned once i am done dicking with the suspension. also have to commit to the spring rates i have before that time. 900 rear and 650 front. anyone object? if so, what then? Janis 400 x 4 corners is a little light from videos that i watch. kinda bouncy.

and i still have yet to think about limiting the front end.

gotta mount the radiator overflow can, and plumb it in.

i have to figure out a throttle cable, and make mounting stuff for it. figured, needs executed.

have to make a vac header for all vac/boost accessories. may just steal rabbit one. done. stole rabbit one now to mount it

need to remake the WG dump tubes and figure out plumbing on the dual WG's. i got some SS flex tube for that. will make the required shape for the dumps, and then tack them into that configuration.

need to finish welding closed all the unused holes on the firewall.

oh yes, drain and fill trans and diff, install welded center diff, pull this block out and install pink block, once we go thru the bottom end with a new crank (fixed maybe) and new bearings, etc.

i got a bit to do.

working the list down. but i am also adding to it as i see stuff come along :(

also, it WILL be painted this weekend. cant wait to toss on the slicks and roll it out into the SUNLIGHT!!!!! man its gonna look sharp!

got the hole in the firewall for the harness. gotta make the one into the fender on pass side for the WB02 sensor and EGT probe.

final mount the dash. and mount the console and cluster.

wire in the starter button, where the key used to be.

final mount the AWIC and reservoir. after i weld in the pass side door bar.

mount harness and final mount seat and seat back brace.

gotta put in all windows and seals as well. did pass side, need driver side.

have some room to work now, banished the rabbit back to the dark hole from whence it crawled....

and i dont know about you guys. but being able to step into the engine bay and work on the motor is tremendously handy to be able to do. i know when its all in there it wont be the same. but just no front upper core support and light buckets in the way leaves soooo much room. nor the mid-height bumper support structure. lots of room here now.

dash should go in tomorrow.

had to remount the cluster panel. it hit the dash bar of the cage.

and remounted the console plate as well, not so deep in the dash now.

i feel that the dash goes in tomorrow for good. i think/hope.

also did some more sanding on the quarters and doors....

windshield in. needs riveted across bottom, and final sealed. got it on the first try. close enough for a race car anyhow. only thing is that it will scratch easy. will seal the gap across the top of the windshield after paint this weekend. and seal bottom while hood is off.

picked up my new paint supplies today. wasnt too bad. $282.88 for 1/2 gal color, 1 gal clear, 1 gal prep, 1 gal reducer, 1 qt hardener, respirator, sticks, cups, strainers, tack cloth, head sock, 600 wet/dry, scotch bright. the works.

also, here is what the dash is lookin like lately.

hahaha....

didnt feel much motivation to work on it today really.

so i wired the start button. ran all the harness and wires out to the engine bay.

final mount the dash, i hope.

final wiring on reluctor interface for VSS signal. i have a 50/50 chance of getting the right output off the box. yellow or green?

seems like the list is slowly but surely getting smaller. but each time i finish something, another 2-3 little things come up.

i cant wait to paint this weekend..... imagine, this is the color....

Dark Carmine Red Effect - Metallic/Iridescent. dark red metallic-y kinda sparkly in a low-key kinda way. sunday i am gonna mount skirts, bumpers, slicks, and roll it out for a picture or 12....

well aaron, when you are writing more things down on the list after crossing one off, you know that the ones you write down are smaller easier tasks than what you finish each time
