In your box of spare distributors and distributor parts? At least that's where mine are

Is it the steel gear factory rebuilt dizzy or did you add a bronze gear? I think the bronze ones can be a bit noisier or is it the other way around? You can search the audifans/audiworld archives for Bernie Benz's posts that claim the timing belt needs to be really tight to eliminate the dizzy gear noise. A word of advice tried that and it resulted in not one but two failed squealing H20 pump bearing/seals so take that with a grain of salt. If it's a new gear it may need time to wear in a bit.

Good to know - I think it's brass, but it's a used part not from my car originally. The rattle goes away on throttle but it's audibly annoying

Took it for its first real drive on public highways today and it was a blast! Everything is working beautifully! I have a boost control solenoid en route from Marc so until then I'm running a massive 5 lbs of boost!
Huge thanks to Nick (AMD is best) for helping me with tuning/VEMS navigation. I gave it a wash and plan to drive it to work tomorrow to burn off more if the crummy 3 year old gas so that I can install the 044 fuel pump and give it a fresh tank.

Question: how are you running 5 psi on the spring
Do you have a tial I forget. I was sure that a 20v spring went higher than that

I decided on the way home yesterday to try revving the motor out to its normal 7k redline. It did so wonderfully, but my tach signal dropped off at 6. What's up with that???

Only the tach stopped going at 6k or the motor did too? Would be helpful if you post a log of the event

I'll try to grab a log, but no engine was fine, just the tach danced

This sounds pretty typical 3b VEMS to me. I have the same problem and so do many others. It is nothing for you to worry about, but I do wish they would fix it. Something about a pullup resistor maybe? I dunno.

Mine only really does that if I bang off the rev limiter now. I used to have issues with trigger errors though.
Is it happening consistently?

Now Ed, I remember that one time you were scurred to rev your car too high when we were setting the rev limiter higher that one year at Carlisle

I think Marc can answer this question better.

Hahahaha def doing it wrong, but without boost control and only running 5lbs, there isn't much motivation...
With that said, boost control solenoid should be here today

Gave it another run to 7k and no glitch in the tach this time? Typical Audi.
