No, I tried. They actually stick out a good three inches. And the one would be in front of the timing belt/hitting the crank pulley. Not gud

Nice. Is there a panel that will protect those lines?

Also, on the clip, I've seen clips like that used in other cars too. Seems pretty standard for door/trunk/hatch linkage clips. Perhaps a junkyard trip for you?

Yeah my brother in law said Canadian tire will have an assorted old car plastic door handle do dads pack, so I'll try there and see what I can find

The lines aren't that low. The oil pan is lower. Then the subframe below that. If something hit the fittings I would have way bigger problems lol. Plus when people think of hitting driveways, the front end of this car is pretty high, it slopes up a lot from the height at the wheels. It's not like a supercar with a super low nose.

I'll have another look at it, but after playing with it for about 15 minutes last time I concluded that this was the only way to mount it. I usually like to trust myself but I'll have another look ;)

For the first time since owning the car I have four working door handles!

And the accumulator and associated fuel lines are gone! Replaced with 3/8 rubber line that loops around since the pump and filter are in weird positions. And a new filter. Tested it out and no leaks so I'm happy. I wonder how much more fuel I'll be getting with the 4bar fpr, new filter, and simplified routing with 4 less sharp 90 degree fittings.

To do list:

Bleed brakes
Flush coolant

Melt ALL THE FUCKING SNOW THAT KEEPS FALLING AGGGHHHHH

Hey good to see you here Nick! I wanted to invite you in your thread but I just try to post as little as possible there.

4k related, got all my coolant and brake fluid ready to go for tomorrow. Also when the site opens i'm picking up some hose for the catch can. Then alignment! Omg it's going to be... Done?

I am feeling STOKED. Bled the brakes and flushed the coolant this morning. There was a ton of air in the right rear which was the majority of the problem. There might have been a tiny bit in the rear left as well but I'm not sure as I was in the cockpit.

I reset the req-fuel but it must have been out a bit because I had to add more fuel in the ve table for a lambda of 1 at idle. I added the same amount to the whole table so we'll see when I take it out.

We ran a ton of water through for the coolant flush. god knows how much tap water, and then 12l of distilled water and then emptied it out and put da pink stuff in. The cooking system is weird. The thermostat says Wahler 87 and is in good shape, but VEMS says the coolant hits 96 before the fan turns on and the thermostat fully opens.

And lastly I installed a nice red 1" straight line for the catch can. It's behind the rad, in front of the coolant expansion tank now.

Ugh it looks so messy in pictures but it's actually pretty tidy, lol.

Looking good, did you use speed bleeders or just with a buddy?

Also as a former mk2 owner, having all 4 door handles turn into 3 is just a matter of someone trying to open your door hahahaha!

Ugh. It's so nerve wracking leaving your car with someone. *this is the same building as my dad's shop so I only had to drive about 100ft, and no salt!

Yes your car is nearing the nice point of needing a premium full insurance to cover all the modifications (investments). Nothing worse than using a car that you're worried about all the time.

Definitely.

Agreed value insurance coverage all the way. Thanks to Martin for the pro tip.

Rear turned out great. I didn't get papers, but will when I go in next. Because of the funky-ass tie rod on the front right they couldn't finish the front. Which is okay... whatever, they're honest and our shop neighbours :)

I have a 80/90/CQ FR tie rod assembly coming, so I'll install that and then they'll finish up the alignment. The kid/apprentice mechanic said he liked how clean it was, haha. Poor guys have been working on salty sandy wet snowy icy cars all winter. Bummer.

I agree with you guys on the insurance, I think I'm going to have to start shopping around for classic car insurance. My basic coverage will likely total the car if anything happens.
