that last pic of the drivetrain is kinda funny. reminds me of some of those cutaway drawings i've seen of the quattro system in Audi ads.

wasnt this the parts car that was for sale on here? I believe the P.O. swapped the suspension out with his single peice car and put the single peice stuff back into this car

yes. that why i am now trying to find the correct stuff to put back onto it.

and they are A1-Racing sleeves and perches, with Eibach and QA springs.

i moved this stuff below from the intro post so i can have room up there.

well, i have a couple posts out there, 'bout what i am doing to this poor Coupe i picked up on the CHEAP. (Thanks Derek)

started with a 1990 CQ. have a big plan of a 10 second 1/4 mile. with both this car and the rabbit.

i am in the process of gutting this one, and Euro-ing it up some. bumpers are really lightweight ... while i am at it, i got a CQ for the wifey as well, and doing alot more S2'ing to it.

the motor is gonna be handled by Issam. but its a 4cyl. doing some top secret stuff to an AZG 2.0L block. getting prepped to turn 10k RPM's....... oh yeah solid lifters and tons of boost.

doing manual brakes, no Bomb, no booster, just MC. got a Fox manual rack as well. stripped some out of the engine compartment, got some tube frame work up front planned. small fuel cell, twin Bosch 044's (to feed 1000cc injectors :o ) and some other custom stuff in there.

so, since pix make things go 'round, here are some. car in delivered state. then start gutting it. plans are to make it as light as possible, and still meet 9 sec NHRA requirements. i think i can do it.

got alot of 034 goods goin on it as well. making my own coilover setup, following RS a bit here. i am going to start off with 900 lb/inch rear springs and 650 lb/inch fronts. seam welded up the front subframe, Delrin bushings, and alum subframe bushings. same for the rear. brakes are new, basic stopping power. the track has plenty of runout room LOL.

motor is 1.8T 4cyl. going to start with fully custom axles, 01E trans, and see what happens.

enough, on to some pix......

cams all came as a package deal..... i think it was ~$2500 bucks.

that was all of this, but the basis is the Forged Billet Solid cams... they are $1k alone. got from someone parting out their project. would be a tiny bit different if i ordered it all from scratch, but ~$500 more if i did so.

wholly crap! i had no idea how much. i was thinking around $1500 for the supertech/034 stuff i priced out. but i thought that solid cams would only cost like $5-600. sre yours so much cause there billet??

perhaps shopping forthe 16v will be a little cheaper, but i dont know about $1000 cheaper. shitkicker man.

i think the Billet cams are $400 more than the cast ones. but solid vs hydro are equal.

and then you need the lifters, too, if you went solid.

with hydro cams, like i run in the rabbit now, i have 3652's with OEM lifters... cams and new OEM lifters were ~$900 IIRC. then add another ~$450 for springs/retainers, and you are there. at least, i THINK it was about that. did it last year....

and the 16v stuff should be cheaper. more of it and it has been around longer.

Ok...umm
update?

no pictures..... but today, i welded up the rear subframe. torched out the bushings (it makes a mess but works good) and they just sorta fall out after that. got the rear LCA's taken care of earlier in the week.

did the rear diff mount as well.

cut off the spring perches for the rear coilover setup. now i have nothing to work on out here.....

i have made some plans on the rabbit, though. got a sweet alternator setup coming from Issam. also have the rear LCA bushings from 034 coming, thru Issam, as well.

got lots to do, but no home-time to do it.

there is some talk of some motor internals, but think its on the down-low for the moment..... but it is sounding real promising. original plan was to use a spare AEB i have. now i have an AEG 2.0L block and am building off of that. still solid AEB head. (i think i mentioned this somewhere) but still race gas and tons 'o boost. and 4-wheel slicks......

lets see.... anything else? oh, AWIC. have another S2 rear bumper for the Lago coupe. got some Reiger sideskirts for the race car.

i have to stop by Kevins place (technoquatt) and check out the CF B4 hood that i want to put on the race car. i also have a friend in Germany on the prowl for some S2 B4 headlights or RS2 projectors. one or the other.

have a couple offers for the for the front spindle/hubs, over on vortex, but never time it right to complete the deal. the guy i am trying to finalize with is on here as well..... quattro12435 or close to that...

hmmmmmm. oh yeah. i took off front and rear bumpers. fenders as well. took them to a friends house, he is painting them the final color for me. he shot the front subframe black, and put some leftover clear from the car he was working on that day....

other than that, nothing doing.

and i got a MOMO steering wheel for it too. i have tried a couple times to grab an S2 3-spoke wheel, but have not wanted to go further than i have. oh well. car only needs one steering wheel anyhow.

oh yes. i also orered up all of the heims ends and DOM tubing to do the front steering arms and the rear tie-rod arms. Issam got me the studs to replace the tie rod ends on the rear steering arms. i like to build my stuff, so i will make the bars themselves.

got the 4kQ propshaft delivered from Derek before he left, and have the URS4 01E trans linkage he will bring by when he returns. so once the oil pan gets here from Issam, i am good to go mocking up trans and motor mounts.

so i guess some stuff has been going on, but nothing as far as solid forward progress. a lot of planning though. and parts locating.

Urs linkage will not work, it is up to high and hits tunnel you need 01 S4 linkage

oh, i plan to go the easy way. cut off tunnel, make shifter go where it wants to, weld tunnel back in. tired of looking and looking and looking. i find one, its for A4 not S4. ask around, they want a fortune for one. try from Europe, get poked anyhow. so screw it, go back to what i know..... i have been asking, searching, reading.... i read your thread at least once a week LOL. and RScoupe, and RS, and zerb among others. and i appreciate all the help i have gotten from the kind MG people in the recent past.

got an S2 setup from England, guy sent 01A shit when i specifically asked for 01E and even sent pictures of what i wanted/needed. the same happened with the trans mounts, 01A not 01E.

since i am not running any interior, and dont really care, it will just be easiest to cut and weld. i like doing it that way... if i can get the shifter for this trans to work, while only cutting up some of the tunnel, it will be great. i spent a lot of the first year of the rabbit fighting shifter crap from transplanting a different trans in the car. that car is getting some trans beef this winter....

i dont plan on running exhaust down the tunnel anyhow, i can lower the trans and motor some if need be as well... have to make all the mounts from scratch as it is....

got some more stuff for the car.... got the HKS BOV. got an AWIC to try out, see if i like it, or maybe just run a huge-ass FMIC like most do. the reason i am looking to AWIC is the fact that the FMIC is really good with flow. but there is no flow until you get going on a dragstrip. and the AWIC with ice water will have full cooling right off the line. dedicated drag car can take more advantage of this rather than the long runs....

also got a Momo steering wheel, and also got the right hub. now to get the NRG quick-release, and we are in business.

i think i finally got the front hubs/spindles sorted out. hopefully the guy sends them soon. i also got some Reiger (?) side skirts, too. gotta cover the beat-down rocker panels on this thing haha. and i will get the plates welded onto the strut housings, so i can finalize the coilovers.

another plan is to put this hood on the street car (all i am waiting on is the headlights) and get a CF hood from Kevin (technoquatt).

on to some pix, cuz we all like them.

update: picked a color... my buddy painted the fenders today..... craptastical camera phone pic. i will get a better pic when i am home. by then the fenders, bumpers, Rieger sideskirts will all be painted. and doors will be next, and maybe the CF hood as well.....

the color, besides being free, is a factory GM color. its like a blood-red, metallic, with copper effect pearl/metallic.... i dunno, it'll grow on me. it should look good with gold rims..... i am usually a blue or black kind of guy, but free is, after all, free.

funny thing; when he was done, after he shot the clear on and it was sitting, his dog came in to see how he was doing. and the dog was just happy to see him, and started wagging his tail, right against a freshly painted fender hahaha. he is all pissed that he has to do some heavy color sanding, and re-shoot clear. i thought it was funny. but oh well. thats the only update, really.

yeah, body shop dogs have to be very obidient and mellow. or they end up doing things like that.

i cant wait to paint one of my cars again. its been like 3-4 years since ive done any body/paint work on MY cars. im always too worried about the motors/suspension now. i gotta get 1 car lookin good as well as drving good.

i am also not so much a red guy. i actually hate it, unless its on someone elses car. but the red coupes/S2's ive seen look good in red.

so wheres this super duper 5v motor you got? any spy shots??

here is a couple of the rabbit 20v... it has Cat 3652 cams, Wiseco 82mm pistons, Scat rods, Supertech springs/retainers and a smallish GT35R on a BF tubular manifold. and this is in a worked over small port head, too with OEM lifters, valves, and headbolts even. it puts out a measly >550whp on C16 @ 29psi in 4th.... but regularly sees 36+ psi on the track.

oh yeah, its PINK. like Easter Bunny Snot. the builder thought i would get upset if he painted it pink, but me, i dont give a rats ass what color the motor is, as long as its badass...

the Coupe motor is going bigger and badder..... and like bright green or something crazy for the motor i am sure :D

damn, baller status obtained!

a nahni pink block and hella -AN lines :o 8)

well shit man, this thing should be pretty quick then.

oh, the pink motor is not as high strung as the coupe motor will be. i only take it to 8500.

for the coupe, i am looking for maybe 40psi, 10krpm, and bigger/badder shit on it. want ~750awhp or so, in that area.

and he sent me a pic of the fender on the car.... it looks decent. not sure if any CQ cars came this color or not.... one thing i am sure someone will have to mention, but the fender trim does not match the door trim. and i could care less. it is a race car..... he wanted to shave it all, and i said no.... the car came with no fenders, and these were the first B4 fenders i found. they kind of suck putting on the car, as they mount differently than what would have come on the car. but its all good....

it will look better when its all done. bumpers paint tomorrow, and the rear LCA's. rear subframe yesterday....

i like how my car gets progress and i am not even there to do anything :D

that is because the fender is from a b4 not a cq or cab
