What oil is right for me....

I bought a B5 with a built 1.8T in it. This was about 5 years ago. Since then the engine has made its way into my 90.

Since day 1 I have ran 5W-40 Castrol. Its got JE 8:5:1 pistons with a larger 82.5mm bore, IE rods, 2.0 crank. The head is 100% supertech components. I pulled the pan off last year and plasti gauged what I could get to just to double check clearances and see how everything was wearing. Looked great.

Should I be running some heavier race oil? Or should I just keep doing what I'm doing. The motor still runs excellent and burns no oil. I haven't don't a leakdown test in a while, but it seems healthy.

I personally like liquiMoly 5w40 and Motul Specific 502.xx. But yeah, if no wear keep doing what you are doing.

How about an oil analysis?

If you're wearing well, why not maximize intervals?

Any good 40 or 50 weight oil is probably where you should be. If it's a hot climate then 50 for sure.

I ran 0w-40 in my last motor and it looked really good after all of the abuse. Including all those really hot track days.

Yeah, I like the 0-40w mix...

my 12v was given to me running 10w-30, but the lifters were noisy in the winter and it leaked bad... 10-40w helped leaking, recently switched to 0-40w because of availability in Mobil1... no more lifter noises!

Car seems very happy with 0-40w year-round
