It seems that Audi from B3 4 cylinder cars through B4 FWD V6 cars, continued to use the 012 trans. Am I assuming correctly that the later V6 FWD trans bolts up to a 4 cylinder?

yes, in europe they were B4 cars with FWD and 4 cyl engine
and as I saw in etka, same tranny
