ok, just picked up my new rocco yesterday.....its a bit of a fixer upper but i got it pretty cheap so i figure what the hell. Its a california car so no rust at all and i cant find any signs of an accidents so it looks to be a clean shell with only around 110k on it....for now i think i will just be bringing it up to snuff and getting it back to NH before i debate weather or not to build it..

yay! got the images to work.....

Bill:

Those pix bring back memories of my early '86 Silver/Black one!!!

I installed one of the first TT 16v exhausts in that car, and boy do I miss that growl!

I don't miss the "self machining" vw transmission though...

I still cant decided if i should keep it or not....i know vw's and i built my other scirocco an have a set of pistons for it already.... but i sort of want to finish my 90 which means this should stay a DD...i dont know.....to may projects to little time.....

Right now I just want to get it up and running well, it is running a bit rough and has trouble firing at first, although the injectors are new so they shouldnt be leaking to bad...

anybody know anything about that error??? i still cant add the pics...

Ok, worked on the car a bit today, both of the adjusters for the seats were very messed up and clogged, got those cleaned and lubed up, now the seats adjust nice....also the passengers seat didnt want to fold forward so i had to make some adjustments to make it work again...then i just cleaned up the interior....

when i go to start it i have to crank it for a while and give it some gas to get it to fire and then once it is up and running well i cant do any more than crack the throttle or it wants to die and it pops through the intake once in a while.....but once it warms up it it gets a bit better....will have to mess with it a bit later on and tomorrow
and i still cant put any images from my scirocco album in here....

even though they are new injectors there might have been crap in the lines and they are leaking already. you may want to pull the lines and clean them out and see of there is any rust under the band joe fittings in the fuel distributer. also once its warm and running well try unpluging the preasure regulator on the side of the fuel distributor and see if that makes much of a difference, iirc those have a fail safe so if they crap out they will let enough fuel through so it runs but not really all that great. you may wanna verify this with the bentley. and if you don't have one definatly get one. good luck

Well it seems that the injectors feel a bit loose on the drivers side, only the left two seem that tight, the right two seem a bit loose. Dont know about crap in the lines, would be a bit surprised as this car is petty damn clean, no rust anywhere on the fuel dizzy.

that is another common thing with the older cis cars, the injector o-rings they can cause a vacuum leak, other then that check all the other vacuum lines the old vw braided lines don't hold up much past 10-15 years

ok, today i put on 2 cv boots on the large passenger side axle, next is going to be the new struts.....took the intake back apart again and found a small hole, vacume leak in the intake boot....is running much better and hopefully will be ready for the trip cross country soon....

ok, update time........things i have replaced...oil pressure switches, coolant gauge sender, fixed a vacume leak in the intake boot, removed the ISV, replaced the shift bushing that they had used duct tape to try to fix with a mk2 one, just had to shave it down a bit to get it to fit, got the old tierod out, put in the new front suspension, removed the PS belt, installed the poly front motor mount, i pulled the cluster to try to get the dash lights to work, but with no success, and i think thats about it......almost ready to start the LONG drive to florida and then up to NH....

ok, i havent updated the scirocco page in a LONG time but here is a quick recap. It made it from ca to fl then up to NH where it is now. It lost reverse along the way but is still running strong. It got a new sunroof along with some nice rear speakers and a sub courtesy of my old 200 20v. I custom fabbed up a crank case breather setup that i got the idea from my buddy ivan back in fl. I also pulled the tranny from a mk3 jetta 2.0 and replaced the fluid with some redline and am going to be throwing it in car i lew of fixing the existing transmission, and for 50 bucks how can you go wrong?

Well while driving the Rocco to the next town over last week I heard a loud bang, not driving it hard, revving it up just normal driving....the car still would run, but was running real rough and the oil light started flashing so i shut it off imedatly and called AAA, didnt have time to look into it till today and this is what i found when i pulled the pan.....

Yea, I have a set of 5 low mileage MC pistons and rods that I could drop in to another 1.8 bottom end, OR.......I could drop in the extra 2.0 bottom end i have here in it but then it wouldnt be able to take boost that well but i dont know if i have the time to boost it anytime soon anyway......so i guess i could just swap the 2.0 in there and leave it CIS .................i dont freakin know, i really need to try to finish up the megasquirt II on the 90 right now then i'll deal with this problem later
