Gonna get the oil tested too!
Taking the trans to a shop to have a wavetrac diff installed.
Hard to tell from pictures, but the race feels smooth when running my nail across it, you can see some change in color, but no feeling of wear, same with the roller bearings, you can see some change in color but they're smooth to the touch.
Ohh yea, I found the trans 10 years ago, new old stock in Fresno, CA: 093, fwd coupe trans, cable operated clutch, not hydraulic, currently has about 25k miles on it, lot's of track driving!

Just my opinion, but if you have it open, and access to the new bearings, no point in not replacing them.

I have to disagree. If there is no galling on the rollers or on the races, I would not bother replacing the bearings.

Too late!!
I doped the trans off this morning and the 1st. thing the owner said was: "where's the new carrier bearings?"
He said as insurance, I should replace all the seals, gaskets and the carrier bearings (same parts fit the 016), the stuff is cheap, about $60 for everything...

You are supposed to re-shim everything when you replace bearings. Since you are doing that anyways then why not.

Yeah... the shop is charging me $450 for the swap and setting up the lash on the ring and pinion..... he basically said bearings were mandatory, he's not going to pull the gear cluster apart, so I don't need to change the pinion bearing or any of the others....
BTW.. when is big Jimbob gonna get a wavetrac?????

You are?
Maybe German bearings are sloppily machined junk compared to American car and truck rearend bearings, then. Every time I put new bearings in an American rearend, I use the old shims and everything comes out perfect with respect to preload and pattern.
Generally speaking, the bearings are not the part you need to adjust shims for, it is the case machining. Bearings and gears are machined to perfect tolerance and they use the old shims 99.9% of the time. The machining is so good at the OEM level now that the last set of gears I installed, Ford Motorsport gears in a Mustang, had no "pattern". The gears were machined and lapped so perfectly that they wiped across the full face as if they were already broken in. The nose of the pinion wasn't even machined flat with a depth marking in it, it was as-cast, you just put it in with the old shims and like magic everything is perfect...
All that said, those bearings look just fine, run 'em.

Good real world feedback. So maybe saying check the lash would be more appropriate

Little late to the party, but I would have put that thing back together as the bearing and race looked good to me.
