Turbo exhaust housing machining question.

I decided to machine the K26 #6 housing I have to fit my bigger turbo. I figure with having a 20v, the #8 housing is probably too big. So I machined the inside of the K26 housing to match the #8 housing.
My question is, does the volute chamber need to be connected in a full circle? The #8 housing appears to have been ground out to connect it.

Where as my newly machine K26 housing is not connected.(yes, I know it's cracked)

The question is, do I grind it out and connect it, or leave it alone. Any help would be appreciated.
