well, i thought long and hard after locking up my first 01E last fall at the track about what i wanted to do with my Audi. Sure, just rebuilding an 01E with a new 1-2 collar would be an easy task, then getting back to the track with my 2.0L 20v setup and seeing if i could better my track times. But in the end, i was bored...and when i first set out with this project some years ago the original GOAL was to go 10's on a true street tire at 135+, and i did that....twice. Sooooooooooo, the choice was made to sell off my 2.0L20v stuff, and put a VRfuckingT in this thing. Not many interesting pics just yet, but they will be coming...oh they will...stay tuned.
we have the first part i attained for this swap, a VR5 starter from ebay.uk....paypal sent over on monday morning, DHL pulled into work on Thursday, how's THAT for shipping. will this work with the 034 flywheel? I couldnt seem to find that answer, so for under $150 to my door, i figured that i would take the risk and find out.

since it would be a sin to hack up and re-weld those motor mount brackets that hank so kindly swapped me for, and i didnt want to spend the money on delrin motorsport spec mounts...we made these beautiful teeth clattering little gems.

I couldn't answer that question sir. I can peruse Etka later on and find out. Then again, the flywheel from 034 will be here today so we shall soon seen if this will work.

flywheel part number for the AGZ VR5 motor is....071 105 266, which looking at ETKA seems to be a dual mass flywheel.

Well well well. A stock vr5 starter from across the pond. Does in fact spin 034s beautiful longi vr flywheel. And I am STOKED that I took the plunge and tried to see if this would work.

For those interested the part number for said starter is 012 911 023, its from a passat syncro, euro model only, vr5 motor, 97ish, AGZ VR5 motor. Bosch part number is 0001107070, but good luck finding a Bosch unit in the states. The VW number i bought from a dismantler on eBay and it was like $140 shipped to my door. this should allow for the motor to just be plopped right in the bay and no clearance should need to be made on the frame rail, as you do with the 034 starter. ill take some more pics of it from the other side of the trans adapter when im back in the garage, youll see that it 'hugs' the block much more, almost as if someone somewhere meant for this to happen, lol.

So. Motor is in. Sorta. The mounts we made are too short. I think my buddy musta measured the wrong dimension or some shit, not sure. Have him a stock mount and said....make this outta stainless please. Oil pan is hitting the subframe too. Which I didn't think would happen because its a toureg pan and I was pretty sure those bolted right in aside from just needing to be shortened height wise on the section that sits in FRONT of the subframe.

Blurry. But the effort was there.

Looking closer. It may NOT be hitting the subframe. I just thought that what it must have been resting on since the motor mounts aren't in but the trans mounts are.

hard to tell, you can always trim a little bit of the webbing

I think the issue is in the motor mount we made. That pic with the calipers measuring it its only 2" tall. Got a Delrin mount you can measure for me?
