Bought a mini-lathe, what do you need made?

Just pulled the trigger on a very premium 7x12 mini-lathe. It can swing just over 4" over the carriage and can handle parts on the order of about 8" in length (I'm being conservative because I haven't explored the true limitations of the size yet). I got the small lathe for now because I'm limited on space in my current living situation, but it can still be useful for small parts like bushings, hinge pins, etc.

I just wanted to let you guys know that I have the capability to produce small cylindrical(ish) parts with pretty tight tolerances in case anyone needs something made!

  :drive:

Chris, Mr. Henkin will be in touch with you tomorrow.

However would you be interested in providing some of us with some bushings? Id make them myself but I dont have the capital in invest in a lathe at the moment. Too busy with motor mounts ya know?

Yes, that is just the type of thing I was thinking of :)

I'd be especially happy to make things from delrin, and even more especially if you buy some stock and send it to my place. Lets talk about what your design entails (dimensionally) and then just let me get the thing set up and cutting.

Yeah, definitely on the list.

Little Machine Shop 7x12 Deluxe (has metal change gears, metal knobs, DROs, etc.) with a sweet tooling package. If I ask nicely Justin will help me make it CNC... I don't need that for now, but it could be useful/fun in the future :) He made his own CNC router table/micro mill so that's a good start.

LOL, I *might* need a bigger lathe for that.

Matt, I can't make brackets with a lathe unfortunately :(

Why didn't you go for the mini mill with a rotary table?

I'm thinking of getting one.

Mini mall with rotary table can't do everything a lathe can. I will get a mill at some point too though. A good mill and good lathe is much better than trying to do both things with one machine!

I agree, the more tools the better! Just have to pay for everything too :(

I'd be in for a set of subframe bushings for UrS cars. I'd take front and rear if you make them. Hell, I'll buy a stock one of each and material and send it your way if you telle what kind of material and dimensions

Both can be found on the S2 forum, btdt

Yeah, it is true they can be had on S2forum.

I can definitely make them though. I actually have the front bushings at home I think (I have to go dig for them), but no rears. I'd really need measurements of the inside of the subframe holes to be able to make a set though. I need a very accurate ID of that hole in order to design the fit of the bushing properly.

any chance you have a Mill as well? I need a brake block for a D2 S8. I think I can source the design.
