As much as I try to resist modding the hell out of EVERYTHING with wheels in my driveway it was only a matter of time before taking the next step with my wagon.

First, a little recap of current mods:

RS2 EM
GT3071 Turbo
VEMS PnP Standalone EFI ECU
samco intake hoses
034 FMIC
60#/hr fuel injectors
'Hap' rear swaybar
034 High Output coils
Bira system 3 brakes up front (996 calipers on Euro A8 rotors)
17 BBS wheels on Kuhmo MX tires

-- edit: historical info below regarding 034 IIC setup on the car. I wound up moving the IIC ecu to my v8 and I now run VEMS on the S6 --

Alright, so my next mod for the car is going to be a GT 3071 turbo which just arrived today amongst other goodies ;)

So rather than have to spend another $500 for a chipset from Mihnea to run my new turbo I decided to try to make a plug-in wiring harness for my car to run 034 EFI stage IIC through the stock wiring harness connector. I've built up most of the harness and have just been waiting for the pulley to come in to take it to the next step...

Here's the harness so far:

and fitted in the car

More updates soon when I get the crank pulley installed 8-)

Hey Myke, you got the AAN crank locking tool? I just remembered its different than the other I5 locking tool...

So Marc, which car is coming to Watkins Glen 2? 8)

dunno, either that or the coupe. I'm not going to install the turbo until after teh glen to make sure I've got at least one trackable vehicle ready to go :-P

The crank pulley will go on before hand tho, so I can keep working on the stage IIC conversion.

Either way is fine with me, though I'd definitely like to check the coupe out. :D

Sorry nope all I got is the original style one.

It's ok buddy, there's others out there like you...... my nice daily driver coupe managed to have a turbo fall into the engine bay this week too.... :o

It NEVER ENDS!!! :D

:-o :-o :-o

034 IIc and a GT3071 in an UrS.... This is right up my alley. I'm excited to see where this project goes. Best of luck with everything (and take lots of pics!) :)

Update, I'm now running my S6 on stage IIC full time now :)

Today I installed an LC1 on the car to provide real time wideband feedback into the ECU through the stock wiring and my adapter harness. The car runs awesome!

The last thing I gotta do is dial in the closed loop boost control settings as right now I'm running on straight spring pressure which is only about 9 psi, cant wait to up the boost!

for those looking to build a similar adapter harness, here ya go.

Image

3 harnesses need to be built:

1) main adapter harness

2) MAF to coolant and air temp adapter harness. You need this because the stock audi wiring for these sensors is unusable

3) VR extension cable: used to jumper from the harness toward the back of the motor to reach up to the front.

Also, the stock air temp sensor needs to be swapped out for an NTC style sensor. I was able to shave down a stock 1.8t air temp sensor to fit in the factory location with no drilling :)

Here's a copy and paste from a text file to make the wiring a bit clearer:

034 Connector A
1 -> 16 (inj #5)
5 -> 1 (coil #1)
6 -> 2 (coil #2)
7 -> 23 (coil #3)
8 -> 20 (coil #4)
9 -> 35 (inj #4)
10 -> 40 (tach)
11 -> 4 (IAC)
12 -> 33 (WGFV)
13 -> diode -> 3 (FPR)
15 -> 21 (coil #5)
16 -> 34 (inj #3)
17 -> 17 (inj #2)
18 -> 36 (inj #1)

034 Connector B
2 -> 7 (MAF pin 3, to MAT gnd - see MAF harness)
4 -> 28 (EGO signal)
6 -> 30 (TPS Gnd)
7 -> 49 (RPM to VR adapter, VR trigger)
8 -> 19 (RPM to VR adapter, VR shield)
10 -> 25 (MAF pin 4, to CLT gnd - see MAF harness)
11 -> 10 (EGO gnd)
13 -> 53 (TPS signal)
14 -> 48 (RPM to VR adapter, VR gnd)
15 -> 24 (ground for map select - optional)
18 -> 26 (MAF pin 2, to MAT and CLT VCC - see MAF harness)
20 -> 12 (TPS VCC)

034 power connector
1 -> 15 (ECU Ground. Tie to strong chasis ground)
2 -> 27 (ECU VCC, ignition on)

MAF adapter harness
2 -> MAT2/CLT2 (MAT/CLT VCC)
3 -> MAT1 (MAT Gnd)
4 -> CLT1 (CLT Gnd)

RPM Sender to VR Adapter (extension cable)
1 -> 1
2 -> 2
3 -> 3

*Note*: This diagram does not use the factory cam position sensor, so the ECU
must be configured in wasted spark mode. If you would like to retain the CPS
signal, the following changes should be made:

- connect 034 connector B pin 23 to motronic pin 8 (CPS signal)
- locate two unused pins to supply a new ground and VCC path to the CPS (CPS
pin 1 = VCC, pin 2 = ground/shield). For instance, you could use the IAT
and CLT pins (motronic pins 44 and 45 respectively) along with an adapter
harness to supply the necessary wiring.

OK, so I could be completely off the mark here... But does that harness allow you to switch back-and-forth between the OEM Motronic box and the 034EFI unit? If so, that'd be pretty neat.

I'm particularly interested in your project, being a fellow UrS owner and all... And being that you've essentially done to your car precisely what I'd like to do to mine. How much work was involved in preparing/switching your UrS to run on 034EFI?

I know you haven't quite opened your car up on full boost yet, but how would you compare the current set-up versus your previous combination (k24/to4b + mihnea ecu)? And when will we see videos? ;)

Yep, thats the whole point :) Completely reversable modification. Bolt on, bolt off.

Well the initial development work took a bit to get things sorted out but now that its been done its just a matter of following my wiring diagram.

I'd say depending on your level of wiring skill you could probably build one of these adapter harnesses in an evening in front of the tv really.

A little bird told me that 034 might be interested in selling these as a product, too ;)

thats one of the best parts, it runs BETTER!!! (Mihnea had my car running 10.5:1 on boost which is quite rich. By simply leaning out the mixture a bit and tuning for about 12:1 the car runs much better and gets BETTER fuel economy.

Did I mention its BETTER :)

Thanks for the diagram. I've already got a JPT55 connector from VEMS and I'm planning on going the same route you did.

cool, its worth it if at least one other person benefits from my time. It certainly would have been faster for me to just swap the harness out wholesale but I think this is a much nicer solution :)
