Audi 20v EFI Long nozzle injector?

Anyone ever try using a long nozzle fuel injector on a 20v? I am not sure how it will sit in the head (Just thinking about how the stock CIS injector sits). I was hoping it would situate itself better than the injectors I have now and offer up a better position for the spray pattern.

Shawn (vt10vt) was using a set of volvo 440cc injectors that looked like that. He had great success with them. These look to be a little longer than the ones he was useing though. I have the same set in my 20vt, but its not running yet, so cant really saw how well they work. Only thing that I noticed with the ones him and I have, is that the fuel rail is now extremely close to thte manifold. I had to grind the on part of it to make room for the conector.

Yep I ran a set for a while.

You will need to at least run them "backwards" ie the connectors on the manifold side of the rail, not the valve cover side as they will hit or at least not let the plugs fit onto them. Because of this you might need to grind down/cut away some of the intake manifold castings to fit injectors 1 and/or 5. It does tighten up fuel rail clearance too, I didn't need to modify mine (OG 034 POS) for the injectors but I did have to modify my rail mounts. I just slotted the holes down, worked fine.

In terms of how well they work, they never gave me any issues but I don't have a lot to compare them to. I switched to a set of 440's like Dave said from a set of 30lb normal style Boschs, so my DC's changed considerably anyways. I agree with you that I do like the extended tip part and it seems to me it would help get the fuel more where it should be and not washing the head with those deep CIS injector wells. I have a second set of them in my car now so I can break the engine in on the old tune/setup before migrating to COP/Walbro 400/830's

I'm in a casual hunt for a later 20v head with the MC2 equivalent cam and puts the injectors in the intake manifold so I can modify it to have a more normal EFI setup with standard injectors and rail mounted to the intake manifold. How big can you get those extended injectors?

Is it an option or their standard body?

Do long injectors with long nozzles exist, as in 60mm injector with extension? I've got the 034 rail and brackets that take a long injector...so a long injector with the extension would be nice.

You can just put longer top hats on injectors like the FID 1200s (like Corey is running now) to make them whatever length you need. The tip is extended like in the picture.

Good to know, I bought a set of these (actually, TWO sets... I bought a Volvo that uses them, they work very nice) but I may be switching out to a set of ID1300s or 1700s because E85 and map switching.

Frickin' project creep.
