Audi 200 20v weird issues

I was taking off from a stop, making a right turn. I got through 1st and 2nd gears and then the car went very flat, 12psi boost MAX with no power. It took everything to keep it going 55 on flat. CEL was on. I get home, the car doesn't want to run, the hood is steaming (it's raining), and when I pop the hood, where the turbo bolts to the exhaust manifold is glowing. Wideband showed normal, all temps and pressure are normal, oil level is fine. The fault code is a 2214 - Engine over-revved. I know the engine wasn't anywhere near the limiter when I was driving it, I was babying it because the clutch throwout bearing is shot.
Has anyone had any experience with ANYTHING like this? I don't even know where to start...

have you checked the timing belt? I would immediately, there is a good chance you have a big bucket of iron now
I would also check anything timing related - g28/g4 knock sensors ... Goodluck man

It's not timing belt. It would still run as long as I had my foot on the gas, and it ran very smooth. It's like a massive vacuum leak. I just don't understand what the 2214 code is all about.

Start with basic diag. Check for adequate spark and fuel pressure. Check distributor cap and rotor. Check plugs. Have you looked at any of those?

Nope, I need to find out what conditions set the code though. I know my throwout scattered all kinds of crap throughout the bellhousing, destroying one sensor. I'm thinking the TDC pin may have gotten hit. If the ECU sees the flywheel count for more than 1 or 2 revolutions without a tdc pin, maybe it sets the over-rev code? I realize I can check for spark, fuel, etc. but I know I need to check this code too.
