So I got this far with it and grabbed the lil box off the shelf with my new T/O bearing and upon opening it noticed that one of these things is not like the other... A closer look shows a prefix of 01E - thanks Blau... I ordered this two+ years ago for a rainy day. That was the end of my evening, now I'll just wait for the new one to show up.

Why didn't you say something and I would have thrown in a new T/O bearing to go with the rest of the pile. I asked Hank to see if he could get some welding done today, but didn't go out in the garage before work and see. He pretty much has a one tracked mind these days and it isn't Audi's, even though he was in the garage last night putting new brakes on the A4. We'll get it though even if I have to weld it at work. If you don't want to wait on the T/O bearing, come on by and pick one up.

Do you need a T/O bearing for an 01E ? lol

Thanks for the offer John, if the new one isn't waiting on my doorstep when I get home tonight I may take you up on that offer. It was already late and sunday was a sweaty one in the garage after our 105° day...

The turbo will be here today or tomorrow as well. After that arrives Im hoping this rig starts falling back together.

Man, the pressure is REALLY on NOW...

My coworker stopped by on his way out today with a big grin on his face. I knew something was up, and it was. He is dropping off his UrQ (yea, two UrQ's at the same building) at a local shop and they will be beginning a 2.7T swap in his car. Going full speed ahead with a Stage III setup upwards of 400hp.

He also plans on attending the UrQ25 event this august and both him and the shop owner are very motivated!

I gotta get my car back on the road and represent LV along with him! Talk about two extreems - a EFI'd 20v and a twin turbo 2.7v6

We go big in Vegas - or we stay home!

I just read your first post and saw this for the first time. I LOLed myself.

That's a swift looking header. Should flow a little better than the stock EM.

So Wolf has agreed to do the car with a 2.7tt and a deadline both? That's great!! I am going to have to go down and visit with him one of these days. So let me get this straight...out of 5 Urq's in the Vegas Valley, mines the only one that doesn't run or at least won't be running by August? Kind of feel a bit guilty and on second thought better stay away from Wolf's, lest he tempts me into dropping mine off too. They already were giving me a ration when my registration ran out on the TT and I couldn't find the vacuum leak in time, so I brought it into them. I can hear Wolf now in that strong German accent of his telling me that if I want the Ur to run bring it in. I gotta start working on my own cars. :frustrated:

I thought MY project was ambitious... When I heard about the 2.7tt swap and plans to drive it to UrQ25 my project seemed to pale in comparison.

Tox - thats one of my fav's too. Hopefully that will be the last pic I take of the car configured like that. I have a Sport hood, tall rally wing, and rally bumpers for it. She's going on a diet TOO ;o]

hey, I spent a few hours on your IM today, and we are getting closer!!!!!! Hey, I talked to Wolf a couple of days ago, and he said tha he was trying to convince the URQ owner, but he acted like he didnt even have a motor sourced yet. I will stop by tomarrow and give him some pointers on the adaptions. He is pretty old fashion when it comes to this performance stuff.

Not true that my mind isnt on Audis.. it is just on the back burner for hte moment. Oh, and my new Tial Wastegate that i got for 180 bucks on ebay hasnt shown up in two weeks, and I havent heard a word from the seller... It kindof took the wind out of my sail. I am still trying to convince my dad he needs to help me throw some paint on my URQ and rip it up to the URQ25 event!!

I know he has full faith in Wolf, and he should. Im just thinking there are TOO many unknowns for a swap like that to be on the road in a month and a half. But anyone who has seen Wolf's eurovan with full Porsche 3.6 running gear...

I keed trying to tell him there are 20v options out there - even one sitting in my garage that I'd like to see gone ;o) - unless i grenade this fire breathing 20v...

Sorry I kept missin the phone last night, had a few errands. I will be home all night tongiht, probably gazing into the workings of mt GT turbo ;o)

The guy in the middle with the black shirt on and everyone flashing gang signs doesn't count?

Sean, sorry for trashing your thread, but I'm trying to recruit audi guys to come to Vegas that work all day and wrench all night. They actually get something done on their projects, unlike me.

I say sell that buick as it sits and lets move on to the Red Pill. The Buick is the only thing left now that the 240 is done, right?

Want to buy it? You could put it in the garage and leave the cayman out front so at least the neighbors would think you hadn't completely lost it. I'd give you an awesome deal. :-D

There is no shame. Admitting it is the first step to recovery ;o}

The UPS truck pulled on to my street right behind me this evening, two boxes of goodies. One was full of miscellaneous gadgets and hoo-ha's including my proper T/O bearing. The other was from 034 - and that one made me grin big.

Image

I unwrapped it like a kid at christmas and headed for the garage.

I had to slap it on the header just for giggles. I like the fitment of the GT2871r and I was also surprised how similar in size to the K24 that it will be replacing.

looks good sean! I will try and come up with a list of things we need to make a downpipe.

Wait till these folks see your Intake Manifold!!!!!
quattro v1.0

Post by quattro v1.0 »

I did a little work dremmeling the phenolic spacer tonight, it's actually saving me from having to grind away any material off the intake manifold. Also as mentioned earlier the T/O bearing came so I wrestled the transmission back in! I hate that job with every fiber of my being.

Hank, should I get the 4-bolt v-band adapter or a weld-on? Im also looking at a piece for the DP that already has an O2 bung welded in. What size is that plug I will need to close up the EGT probe hole? (3/8NPT?smaller?) Im going to start ordering some fittings now that I see how things are going to be oriented. For the I/C outlet I would really like 2 1/2" if we can make that work...

A mockup with the I/M in place would help with decide some of the angles for my line fittings etc.

peace out - i m all ache'y and tired

I would ge the bolt on. They are fairly cheap for the 4 bolt, and welding something on the housing may decrease the value of the turbo, should you wanna upgrade in the future. maybe others can chime in, but I think the fourbolt DP flange is pretty robust, and people odnt have problemswith it warping or pulling studs.

What we will do is make a little adapter, from 4 bolt to v-band, and we will do that in the span of a few inches after the flange. Then if you go up to a gt3071r in the future, you can drop in a four bolt housing, and it will work in the same matter.

As for the 02, just buy the threaded plug, they are easy to weld in. As for the EGT, if you are using a wideband that logs it through the sensor, then you wont need a tap, if you are using an extrenal, I would just use the one on the header. It is an autometer 3/8ths thread. It woulld work just fine. You need to decide whether you will go 3 inch or 2.5 on the downpipe, and order some material. Remember that site I showed you, I would order 2 90s and 2 45s in whatever you decide. I think we can chop of that old downpipe as well to get some of the goodies off of it. Make sure you get a bellow as well, for flex, and we will route the wastegate like we talked.

Um, for the IC, I will bring home some material tomarrow so you can get the IC mounted how you would like, and then you can mock up the endcaps with cardboard, and then give them. I will shear the peices at work, and then weld an endtank together. 2.5 plumbing shouldnt be a problem at all.

as for the IM, did you ever figure out a flange for the TB?

Now that you ahve your turbo, you should start to piece together oil and water lines.. that takes a while. IF you need fittings welded onto audi flanges(IE oil lines chopped coming off the block,) let me know.

Ok, give me a call if you have more questions.

When can I stop spending money? :frustrated: I say that in hopes the IIc bug don't bite me in the final moments of this ordeal ;o]

I got all the stuff ordered for the downpipe, went 3" just in case. Got the V-band parts, the O2 bungs, flex pipe, and tubing itself. Hopefully it will arrive right after the holiday. I think Im going to want to strap the DP to the support on the transmission as the stock one is done so I need to locate some material for that too.

I got a few plumbing pieces but I want to fine tune my decision before I bought all of it - it was getting too late to think about it and I didn't want to order stuff I would end up not liking. Plus I need to get the center section and the compressor rotated into their proper orientation to check clearances for the lines.

I think we were just going to use the 1/2 plate for the TB flange, I didn't see (or I forgot) why I needed a super thick flange.

Im outta town this weekend for the holiday but I will probably order a few things online. I might even stop by 034 since I will be in the bay area 8)
