2.7 corrado mid engine

Post by audidub »

So I've taken on the fabrication phase of this project and thought it would be good to document it here for all to see, the owner had gutted the car before he brought it to me so I was able to jump right into the fabrication. Here's I couple pics to get started, a more thorough update will follow.

Ok so the current owner bought the car as a 1.8t swapped car, cool car for sure but some of the swap was a little rough and he wanted something a more on the wild side. His 1st thought was a 4.2 in the middle so he bought one and talked me into building the new swap, we did the measurements and it was gonna fit with atleast +-1" but every time I spoke with him he mentioned boosting it. After a few meeting I suggested the easily modded and shorter 2.7tt and once he found out a stage one program on the 2.7 matched the stock v8 power he was convinced(and I gained about 4" though more plumbing). So all that's left is make it fit, my plan is to use and Audi 80fwd front subframe, mk3 jetta front spindles and struts, fwd Passat transmission with boxter shifter setup and alot of fabrications. With the roll bar welded in the rear floor pan is ready to be cut out this week so more to come.

Finally a minor update , we've been collecting parts and trying to make it as OEM as possible to make it clean and to make itserviceable in the future. I had a set of 7a trans brackets kicking around so this trans being pretty much a FWD o1a I figured they they would work out fine. I think I'm mistaken, they set the engine to the passengers side over an inch. Does anybody know if this is a 7a thing cause it leans or is everything set over? I may try and source some b4 FWD v6 brackets to see for myself. Other then that we proved the driver train fits in the new engine bay, though I forgot to take a picture while it was in there. More to come

I am pretty sure a crude awd system could be done.

So a mk4 jetta that was being scrapped donated it's front strut towers to the cause, though the only part needed was the structure inside it that holds the strut mount. It needs to be cut down some to fit in the rear towers but will look OEM which I strive for. After a bit more fitting with the engine in its new home I attached the mounting plates to the subframe permanently, I also centered the engine in the subframe figuring on having to get custom axles anyway.
