Was kinda flying this under the radar, but it should be known what happened here. Don't subject your spool valves to backfires due to rev limiter, NLS or anti-lag. Sound performance fixed it but that doesn't fix the turbo although they did offer a Precision at an extremely good deal, although Hank helped me out with a new core. Solution? Weld it. Weld all of it.

Also, I now have a check valve on the spool valve so it stays open during these events, and will be re-engaged by a boost valve only when it's in an area of the map that needs it.

Nice stuff, Jim! No need for a full interior to be able to drive to Vegas! ;-)

Ok, new turbo and spool valve did not fix my wonky boost issues. Taking out the TTRS intake cam. Was going over logs and I was actually using more fuel without it at the same boost. Also got the header and turbine housing under a nice heat shield. Much better just to the touch under there. ImageImage

That's a clever idea with the check valve. So it will simply always hold a little pressure in the line to keep it open since the actuator runs off pressure. We did launch control quite a few times with dad's car and the butterfly valve actually bent, but did not break like yours. That sucks.

So right now you only have the ttrs intake cam in? No exhaust yet? And what was weird about the boost, I must have missed that.

The exhaust cam on the TTRS is variable, so it would probably take a lot of experimenting to get it to run right. Someday we will try adding variable exhaust to the regular 07k :)

The boost issue, I really can't explain it, strange stuff like this, started when the cam went in. The logs with the original cam are perfectly flat boost profiles. Tried three different wastegates, forcing the spool valve all the way open, retarding the exhaust cam, nothing changes, and nothing is consistent.

It give the motor a funky on cam feeling. But on the dyno under load, it never showed up.

Should have it running again before the weekend.

The heat shielding looks really nice. I'm curious to see the results of the cam swap. Best of luck!

Weird. I just had this issue tuning a customer's car. Like exactly the same thing, but on an AAN. Stock cams I think, with a weirdo rs2 type turbo. It would boost to 240ish kpa and then take off. In lower gears it would all happen so fast that I couldn't notice it. But in 5th/6th it was very apparent. I'm on my phone so no pictures from logs but the boost profile looks identical. We didn't experiment a lot with wastegate springs or n75s though, both of which it could have been. But no amount of duty cycle would change it. Super weird.

Yeah, could be a bad N75, wastegate diaphragm, boost leak, all of which I ruled out. Now I am dying to know if the cam fixes it.

I think it was Walter Rohl that said "A car is just fast enough when you stand in front of it in the morning and are afraid to unlock it."

Must be great!

Sounds like the turbo comes online nice and early in the rev range for a turbo that sounds like it is grabbing a lot of air when the engine is revved up. Not sure if everyone in the world notices or smiles when these sounds are made but when I hear both from the same powerplant it is music to me. :flag:

The whole setup is pretty wicked. It makes instant boost even at 3500, and is pretty pissed by 4k in most gears. This is why 1st is almost useless. It builds full boost so fast it just rips the tires loose. Pretty impressive for an 800hp turbo
