Re: High boost troubleshooting

Yeah that was the part of the post I forgot to articulate, is it as easy as swapping the 2.5bar for a good 3bar or does the tune need to be further modified or injectors changed at the minimum?

Re: High boost troubleshooting

Interesting development. My MAP sensor seems to have failed. I'm getting overboost codes at idle as of a few days ago, and the dash readout is 2.0 bar (+/- .1 ) all the time. (aftermarket boost gauge shows anywhere from normal vacuum to 12psi and fueling still remains consistent and good)

So ...

Re: High boost troubleshooting

I routed the ignition wires away from the sensor wires and didn't see any change. Spritzed them with water to see if I saw any change in RPM and nothing there either. Can try insulating them further down the road.

Eli came over and cracked open the ECU to find a custom 2.5bar MAP sensor. I believe ...

Re: High boost troubleshooting

Stock FPR for a 3B with rs2 injectors - (11.something AFR with RS2 tune under full load, 12.something FR with Swann tune under full load)
No clue what the voltage to the pump is under load, but for what it's worth, it's relayed.

Re: High boost troubleshooting

The high output coil (with built in ignitor) was replaced as a trouble-shooting measure. Ultimately I saw no difference before/after in behavior under high loads.

I can happily run up to redline as long as I stay under 15psi. 16psi gets me a couple rumbles, misfires, higher boost gets more violent ...

Re: High boost troubleshooting

it's jerky and violent enough that I get off the throttle because it's no fun, but not so violent that I thought I broke something

once it starts 'misfiring' I could push through it to redline bucking around but obviously don't.

Fuel AFR's bounce around 11.x's with the RS2 tune and 12.x's with ...

Re: High boost troubleshooting

Fixed coil wiring, separate issue from my high boost/load misfire

Haven't been able to crack open ECU yet (afraid I'll break it) but that's up for tomorrow.

borrowed my friends RS2 ECU (from TAP) and with the same WG spring as my Ben Swann ECU it only hits 12psi where the Ben Swann ECU hits 18 ...

Re: High boost troubleshooting

FYI - Here's my poking around the wiring leading up to the coil while it's running.

Sam, yeah we've checked the cam chain, specifically when installing the 7a cams

FFF, i've tried quite a few sets of spark plugs with literally no change, I'm happy to try more but I'm gonna chase this wiring and ...

Re: High boost troubleshooting

Well, I think I texted both of you. I'm hoping I found most/all of my issue, but it's too early to tell. I was driving up Guanella Pass (which is awesome by the way) and at the summit (11,700 feet) my car decided to die on me and not start again. Poking around wiring, I was able to narrow it down to ...

High boost troubleshooting

Hey folks. I was hoping my next post on The Project Pad would be a triumphant return with all sorts of fun/exciting things to report on but I'm still dealing with a nagging issue that's causing me a headache.

I have a 3b 200 20v with a billet K26 and a Ben Swann tune. AFR is spot on at idle and ...

Re: Type 44 weights

yeah, not sure how you managed 3880 with your avant

i had tools in the back, full interior, and a half a tank of gas. only 'weight reduction' could be 3" exhaust i suppose.

Re: Dreaming of a T44 Avant

I just added you on FB. I'm not sure why I'm considering it, but mine could *possibly* be made available for sale. I'd drive it coast to coast at this point, things that still need attention are suspension and interior. It was a MN car though, and has some bits of rust

Re: Drew's 1991 Audi 200 Avant

nope, it's all good! 20psi happy.

did a quick 10-60mph roll and was sub-5seconds which sounds pretty good to me.

after replacing the crappy 034 intercooler hose which has a cut in it and is oil saturated i'll turn up the boost back to 25psi

Short lived! Lol. Cap came off on my second "test drive"

On another note...
I have a 3 WG springs... Stock, 1.9bar and 20v stock. The 20v stock looks and feels right in the middle
Of the other 2, think I can control boost with that one?

Stock gives me 19-20psi, 1.9bar I was seeing 24-25. Id ...

Re: Drew's 1991 Audi 200 Avant

Tried new N75. Thought it fixed it but it didn't. False alarm.

Pressure tested the heck outta the system and found a leak in the Forge BPV. will try another one and see what happens.

if I can get it happy w/the RS2 tune at 16 PSI I'll go back to the Ben Swann tune and see what happens at 23psi

Re: Drew's 1991 Audi 200 Avant

SO,

I swapped out the Ben Swann tune for a TAP RS2 tune and put in RS2 injectors. Dialed the AFR in very nicely, but was still getting a stumble/miss at 5k RPM WOT (could ease up to redline without issue)

So I swapped in a different MAF and no longer have the stumble/cut at 5k RPM but getting ...
