Ohh yea, I "tested" it yesterday all the way up to 40 psi with the air tank and it worked perfect. I was really just plotting points on the main map so I know what pressure the cells were really at since well, you know. I think this is the perfect MAP sensor, I have yet to have ANY drivability problems with it.
Hey Jim, When is the dyno session? I could probably get a 3071 or GT30R to you on loan pretty fast if you would promise to post pics and numbers. We hate to see scheduled time not used, especially for 100hp per cyclinder motors. Biggrin E-mail me!
Wow, thanks for the offer, but I'm convinced to go with the 35R. Javad and I have been talking, and after finding some of Hap's writeups on the turbo, it sounds like the way to go. I think it will be more responsive than the HO turbo, and I really liked the HO turbo.
I've said it before, you really have to see this to believe it. This balanced motor with an 8lb FW and short ratio tranny fricken moves even off boost. So having a huge turbo really works well for me

Well, after a marathon turbo swap yesterday, the GT35R is in! There really is no comparison to the T04/T3 style turbos. It’s just better. I mean you can spin the thing with your hand and actually fell air coming out of it! The compressor looks familiar enough, but what’s really noticeable is the attack angle of the turbine blades. I mean these things are meant to spin, and spin fast. Now I see where they get the term “Ballistic Concepts” It’s also about 1” shorter than my old turbo, which helps a ton with air filter options, but really turned into a PITA because of the way my IC piping is done. I wanted to use a silicone 90 this time, but the outlet on this cold side is so huge it goes strait into the WG. This left me with two options, re-do the endtanks on my intercooler and aim the output down like everyone else does, or weld a 2.5” elbow onto the turbo cold side housing. The later seemed like the easier choice, and I really like having only 10” of intake piping. I’ll take some pics soon.
Driving impressions: It’s always a good sign of things to come when your new turbo makes 6 psi more boost than the old one at the same WG setting. With just spring pressure and a little preload the old turbo made 13 psi. At the same setting, the GT35R makes 19 lbs of boost. I went with the .82 hotside and I can say it was a good choice. The turbo doesn’t “hit” as hard, but the power comes on smoother and at about the same rpms. I also have yet to have it surge on me, even in 5th gear which is really nice. At a mile high in altitude, the turbo will make about 6 psi at 3500 rpms, full boost by 4500 rpms, and shows no signs of letting up until the 8000 rpm rev limiter hits.
I need to pressure test my intake tonight, then I’ll slowly up the boost to 27 psi. This will be right at the edge of the compressor map and will hopefully keep everything happy this time.

Jim and Javad. Does the intake manifold come with any vacuum lines or is this a necessary custom modification? I can see in this picture that you have a 4 x 1 valve. I know Javad has a couple or three coming out the back of his. (I'm considering making a purchase if you can't tell)

So they just dumped Mag-Chloride all over the street since it's going to snow soon. :woowoo: I was planning on turning up the boost past 23 psi, but getting traction even in 3rd with wet roads is hopeless. I did have a very sweet ~75 yrd sideways drift on the way home that I'm still giggling about. Lock diff, flick the car left at the light and mash the gas, man I missed driving this thing! :bashtard:

djpdex, there's plans to fit different animal calls to the BOV for each autocross this year. I was made famous by my 4 wheel burnouts off the line last year, so this year I'll need something new.

Preston, you're preaching to the choir man. I'm so close to having it running perfect, but this stupid weather won’t allow me to tune any more :frustrated: I wish I had more money to just go rent the dyno for two or three hrs, but I think at this point it would be a waste of time.
I really want to get an adjustable cam sprocket before I dyno, and I need to figure out what's tripping my knock light above 20 psi of boost. I still think it's electrical noise from the coils as the dwell increases, but I'm going to toss in some 104 just to be sure, and try re-routing the knock sensor wiring.

Nice glad to see it's ripping again jim. 8)
