Tall block (gas) vs AAN (56k warning WHAAAOOO) - spot the di

Post by chaloux »

These are UNLABELED photos that show all the differences we could spot. There are some pretty cool features on the tall block, it is beefier than the AAN in many spots. It also has some structural webbing just below the cylinders (not sure if pictured). We'll put up a set of ones with labels when we get around to labeling them. Which should be, oh... next year sometime. Sorry for the shitty android photos on some of them.

In other news, we received our last piece, HD valve springs. Who wants a 4krpm 400+whp powerband (hypothetically)? Me! As per Wheeljack's Alpine URQ thread, we'll be putting coolant grooves in the head and block. I think this is around where the line about slow and steady comes in...

cool, glad the springs got there.

On the block, you're in for some welding on the deck to extend that port (above and to the right of where it says "2.5" on the side of the block, on the deck surface). Hank buzkilled me on that one. the diesel blocks already have that done.

The missing oil passage there I see it, that's crazy to have to modify the block.

So all of the stuff is finally at the machine shop.

Block is getting decked/sorted out as per above/bored to 82.5 (well, when the pistons get here it will be). Head is getting the valve seats worked to love the .5mm+ exhaust valves long time.

Once all the stuff is in order it should really only be a week or so to get it all buttoned up.

No pictures, sorry, blah blah blah. Poor car has been off the road more in the last two years than on.

still, yes. But I think they should be done soon. Rest of it is just sitting waiting... haha. The shop is almost all complete and I'll be putting the 4k in there soon as well. It'll be nice to work on an AAN again :)

Finally! Pistons came from Wiseco. Time to get this beast back on the road. Plus I need to get the block out so I can use it in the 4k :)
