CQ project, the road less traveled (They're never done)
ok, Ive got a few pics of the exaust as we were mocking and test fitting. all of these pics are just before the exaust was fully tig'ed. but it still shows how it fits together with the v-bands.

then here is a pic of the intercooler that I will most likely be using. thanks kelly for picking this jewel up for a hundy twenty five clams. Not a bad score if I say so myself!

thanks for all your patience in my build. more pics to come very soon.
meanwhile I have to fight my roomate off with a beater stick. she wanted to learn a few things about cars, I let her put my plugs in and all of a sudden she has laid claim to my precious.
GIRLS... give em an inch, they take the rest without battin an eye. :slap:

well, its been since the end of june since I posted anything. been having way too much fun with jobs, keeping current on bills, trying to do even a little bit on the car has been hard to do. but since I had the rug pulled out from under me at my last job, I decided I would get this thing going as much as I could.

yes. unfortunately, not everything just bolts on. there is alot of fabrication involved. but i feel the end result is better. I feel its what audi should have done in the first place for most of what ive done. of course they would have never done an air to water intercooler setup. ive been working on cars since i could hold a wrench in my hand. for the novice, easiest and best results would be the stock S2 setup where everything just bolts on with no modifications.
Well the 3b was an engine that was made for this chassis, the aan was made for the c4 chassis with more space. I am using an aan engine, however I used the european "aby" parts to solve the space problems, dave is taking a different approach and is using the stock aan with all stock accessories and adapting the car to fit it, with a much more efficient front mount radiator, an intake manifold that doesn't pass over the exhaust manifold soaking up heat, ect...
so sat me and kelly started on my bumper. we cleaned it up and primed it. took a while. gotta love wet sanding! should look as good as the rest of the paint job. laying color monday. then more wet sanding. o boy.
took er out for the first test drive yesterday. ran pretty good for 2.5 year old gas. diddnt expect it to be a powerhouse right out of the gate. need to get it smogged soon and get a test pipe in place of the cat. not to mention re registered and insured. should b happenin in the next few weeks.
so Dave...Hank... ill be down to provo pretty soon. so keep your panties on.
just ordered boost gauge. still have a handfull of things that still have to happen for it to be done in my mind, but then again, is it ever really done? pics of the bumper in paint process to come soon.

OK everybody, Ive had the car running for a few months now and have been testing and tuning and finishing up all of the nagging issues that get left till the last moments. so with the car done(mostly), Ive driven and found what I had been hoping for when this build was over. my temps average significantly cooler than the were in stock form. temps sit between 1/4 mark and the larger 1/3 mark, which is the stock av temp. As I predicted, putting the rad in front was the right move.
as for the innercooler, thanks to hank and his excellent skill with the tig, I got my coolant tank done, hoses routed and set.

had a little prob with the pump for a few days. thought that the after-run pump would work fine to circulate the coolant. I was wrong. it turns out that it didn't have enough to do anything. so I went with a different pump that was similar but much more robust. It is a pump that is used as a bilge pump built by Johnson. It now pumps very well. I checked the temps before and after installation. significantly cooler. once I have the intake isolated from the vicinity of the turbo and exhaust temps, i figure it should keep the temps close to or a little bit above ambient. which is very good.
so now after the engine work is mostly done I decided to tackle that problem with the high mounted brake light. problem being, It has 16 incandescent bulbs and after a while, one or More gets burned out. you replace those, then a week later, one or more are out again. I got tired of replacing bulbs to say the least. I un-soldered all the bulb receivers and re-soldered 16 red LEDs I got. put it back together, installed in the car. then found where the connector was in the wheel well and put in the correct resistor so they don't burn out. it works great. slightly dimmer than before but very adequate. Of course the autocheck says no no. but Im working on that. will have that fixed soon. just a matter of putting a load resistor in the mix to simulate the amperage it no longer uses.
so I also got a set of headlights for it that weren't broken and/or messed up. once they got here Kelly and I took them apart to black out the valence surrounds. I also got smoked corner lights that I thought would match the car better. at first I was torn, thought maybe I should have gotten clear. but after I blacked out the headlight surrounds it looked much better.
thanks hybrid hatch for the lower headlight covers. I put them to good use.
Thanks to everyone whom helped with this build in any way.
here Is the 99% finished product after I drove it up to Udaho to visit my mamma.

I just have to say this thing drives like I always dreamed It would when I finished it. I do want to get a hold of you guys at 034 and see what you have in the way of a chip for my motronic. It already has a 3 bar map sensor and has already been socketed. what I have is mtm's 91 octane stage 1+, but it is antiquated and has its issues. I want to keep my k24 but might be persuaded to change the injectors.
In any case, this car is BADASS. Ive owned it for 15 yrs and have enjoyed every moment.

I would love to say Ill be there in October but I cant promise that. I will say that I very much want to be there. hopefully I can. I wont know that until closer to that date. remind me what date that is?
Yes, the fuzz wants to take me down! I have to be careful to the extreme. I have however kinda tested the waters so to speak, my roommate's fiancee is a po po, and we have tested how much faster my precious is than his crown vic. It wasn't really a contest. And I can tell you it is a very unique and very enjoyable feeling to run from the coppers without me going to jail. unfortunately unless he gets an upgrade, or since its a dodge maybe a downgrade, I wont know how much faster it is against their chargers.
