no pixorz yet, but right now workin on the 01E mounts. got them shaped and drilled, welded up on the side that is multi-layered.

lunch is over, goin back out. welding and grinding in flip-flops is retarded, but i dont want to get "garage" dressed haha.

off to throw the thing under the car..... first i gotta take the 01A shifter out of the car. i already put the 4kQ drive-shaft in..... not much further and i will have a mock-up motor in this thing, and figuring out manifolds and such. :D

got some pixorz....

got the two mount plates made for the 01E swap. got the trans up into place (I think its gonna go here???) and driveshaft hooked up. now to level it out, and figure out the connections between subframe and trans. i am going to use the hockey pucks for the mounts.... i like them. they are solid. and i think for the trans, i am going to do two holes for bolts per side.... a little extra....

and yeah, i do weld in flip flops.... :tard:

good to see you saving hundreds of dollars. you should make a couple sets of those for me and zerb once we upgrade our gearboxes. we'd be very thankful, and even show our appriciation with money, too!

Good work so far, Aaron. I'll be making a set of those in not too long. I'm going solid, bracket-to-subframe. Are you using engine and trans mounts?

I weld in loafers... flip flops might let you flip flop the spark away faster......

This might all seem funny or bad-ass, but one big orange cherry through the top of my mesh-top running shoes and thirty seconds of indescribable pain as the cherry slowly sizzled to a stop on the top of the middle toe of my right foot was enough to convince me that I should wear boots while welding. I don't take all the safety precautions I should, but boots, a mask and welding gloves are a must for welding.

i welded for a few hours straight in shorts and a t-shirt... it was a miserable two days later...

Along those lines, I once did a welding job with something reflective above me. I forget what it was. I don't have a whole lot of hair up top--short and not much of it--so I got a nice little scalp burn.

you guys are bringing up bad memories for me HAHAHA.

when i first got my TIG machine, trying to learn how to weld Al..... just welding away, trying to stick stuff together. went in the house for a break, and decided to get in the hot tub. came out to turn off the machine (in boxers, remember almost ready for the hottub) and decided to weld one more little inch. hood, gloves, and boxers. i hads THE WORST SUNBURN for over a week on only one half my upper body and neck and one arm. it hurt like nothing else......

ahhhh, memories. reminds me also of learning to use the foot pedal the hard way with AC high-freq.... LET OFF PEDAL WHEN DONE WELDING: note to self. 180amps no feel good.... :bashtard:

yeah. thats like super sunburn. like skin cancer sunburn. always wear somthing over you. even if its an old dress shirt.

are you gonna have the mount mounted in there before you finish weld those mount brackts up? i would, just to be sure you have it in the right spot once everythings bolted in place.

so how much for a set of mount brackets there aaron? ( im serious, you should make a jig for each one and sell them.)

yes there will be a mount (hockey puck, they are pretty solid) in there when welding them out. so they will be just like a solid mount....

and it would be hard to make them for someone else..... i am making for my setup, which is a 4 cyl in a CQ with 5spd UrS4 trans, a 4kQ driveshaft, and S2 axles. there are alot of variables there to miss something by. and i am going to cut off the tunnel to alighn shifter and rods/linkages.... the 4kQ driveshaft is to push it all rearward after the longer trans is in place.

i will see how these ones go.

i still have to figure out which side got the longer shaft DS or PS????

did some work on the car today. i made the plates that bolt into the openings for the OEM motor/trans/diff mounts. also spent a little time shaving down some pucks to make them work correctly as well.

and this is a shot of my work area away from home. yes, its snowing right now.

been awhile for me posting here. not much physical progress made as of late on the car. many many planning stages worked thru though.

i finally got the S2 rear axles. and the S2 rear diff on the way. its been too cold for my buddy to paint the doors...

i finally found the proper hubs and spindles for the thing. thanks Dave :D

the rear tie rods are now completed. waiting on the new rear strut housings, so i can cut and make them into coilovers. then i will fit it all together....

i am waiting on some other stuff for it, the shifter from 034.... i got the strut tops, and the front coilovers can finally be put together. i have to gut the front cast LCA's tomorrow. i have been working on the rabbit the past couple days.

the motor is now finally decided on as far as parts go, now to get the builder(s) working on it.

i have the plan in my head for the steering rods.... but its cold, ice, snow out there. it can wait.

i am close to have made a decision on the turbo for this thing, as well. i am leaning towards an FP HTA GT3586R.... but its a close second to just get wild and run a GT4094R divided inlet T4 snail.... and each day, it moves a lil closer towards the T4.

which it will probably end up as.... think its enough turbo for a 4cyl?

go divided t4 and never look back.

like i said....you gotta make a custom exhaust mani anyways right?

might as well make it for a divided exhaust housing and shoot for the moon, its not like the motors being built for super low end torque. :P

and thus why its in the thought-stream now. low end torque does bad things to stuff like axles, trans gears, etc. like them 5cyl guys.....

i am willing to give some low end torque for some longevity. i just now gotta get the car trimmed down some. i have some ideas, just need time.

hell the rabbit now is >550WHP and only ~370WTQ. and its fine. breaks the tires loose like nothing.

my main thing is that youre gonna be putting the time and money into an exhaust mani, youre going to have a motor built that (to my knowledge) no one in the 1.8t world has tried yet 'setup' wise.

so you might as well just get the freakin 40r w/ a divided housing, and if it proves to be too puny, just get a 42r, hah.

and that is what i am getting from Issam at this point as well....

42R and be done.

hell, the 16v guys run turbos that big, why cant i? if you recall, over in the id=27 on poortex, a 28r is a BT.... and a 50Trim, and K04s, and on and on....

glad this place is a much more laid back, mature atmosphere....

you could look at it that way too, 42r, divided houisng, and then youll never have to buy another turbo again. ive just been trying to talk you into the 40r, from the HTA setup, so i didnt want to push my luck to much and get you to jump to a 42r.

hahaha.

i dont want to spool it off the line with the NO2 though......

i am not worried about that size up top, its just down low. that is why i am prob gonna stay at the 4094 level.... BUT? the divided housing is good for somewhere around 700 earlier rpm spool? at least, the way i understand it is.... and thus why its looking that direction.

what about anti-lag/launch control for off the line? i know that sm4 of yours has that, granted thats kinda defeating your purpose of trying NOT to break things while launching, cause im willing to bet that 10+psi at 6K from a dead stop might cause things to.....break
