i am still around, working on the rabbit lately getting ready for april 25th. premiere i guess.
a trans without any syncros is definitely interesting to shift. even have half the teeh for the syncros ground off the gears. we'll see.
but i have good faith now for this car, as i have been a little hard on the Lago in the shift department lately. been driving it around a little on the weekends, and runnin the piss out of it, shifting and such. that thing shifts all the time, right on time, no matter what. it will be a treat to race a car that will shift. done a number of second gear chirpy's, too.
been doing some work on the AWIC reservoir, and really not much else.
but the exhaust manifold.... it is going to be pretty good i understand. it is a true divided inlet (twin-scroll) manifold. 1/4 into one side, 2/3 into the other. separate all the way to the turbo. 2 into 1, 2 into 1, and both ones into the turbo.
it is mounted, and the exhaust will snake inside the fender, past the coilover, and out thru the fender side by the door jamb. the twin Tial V-band wastegates (thanks Issam) dump to atmosphere downward. all mandrel bends SS tubing.
i got no pix, cuz i dont want to drive 160 miles to take them, i will do it when i pick up the car.
also got the boost piping. 3.5" OD polished (it comes that way) aluminum tube with mandrel bends. nice and simple, one pipe. V-band at the turbo, 3.5" x 3" at the AWIC. and my welder guy gets it cheap for me thru work. they have three shops, and they bought a CNC mandrel bending machine, but they put it at their shop in Montana, because of him. thats what the owner told him, as he knew he would be bending stuff left and right for his home adventures LOL. oh yeah, cost for 3' polished schd 10 3.5" OD aluminum tube and the short radius mandrel bent 90? $25 bucks. cheap as all can be. i think i am going to design a couple radiator tanks for the cars... he can brake the material and make them for me in nothing flat.
also ordered the AWIC pump. in tank setup, 500 gph. got the -4AN lines and fittings for plumbing the oil feed to the turbo, and the -10AN lines and fittings for the drain. once the motor is here i will have the return bungs welded onto the oil pan, and weld over the factory.
just a little update, i am still here, and still doing stuff....

played designer for my coolant system. plain, easy, and larger capacity. it helps that i have a great resource for custom welded aluminum goods at an extremely reasonable cost. kinda makes me have things that are not "needed" made out of aluminum just cuz. BLING!!!!
polished aluminum is neat. still gotta figure a radiator though. but i got the parts ordered to do the first one (rabbit) and the AWIC reservoir plumbing as well.
here is my idea, plain and simple. i am going to change the rabbit to this system first. and then the coupe will follow with a different shaped res and catch can. same principal.
the idea is more capacity for coolant, larger reservoir, and all coolant goes into big reservoir then feeds radiator. that way nothing is starved, and boilover should be non-existent.
but this will get me legal to NHRA spec concerning the catch can, and also add cooling capacity to the system. the bright blue line is in case i feel i need more flow.... it is normally the OEM T-stat bypass when coolant is cold. when it gets hot, the T-stat opens up and then coolant is drawn from the radiator also. i have deleted all the useless stuff like oil heat exchanger, heater core, etc. does not apply to a race car. and there is no turbo coolant lines for the CQ, but there is on the rabbit.

so i went and looked at the head today. man is it looking pretty.
been thru the specs but quickly:
AEB head, not ported in any way.
Supertech +1mm intake, standard exhaust. Inconel and Nitirided SS.
CAT Billet solid lifter cams and solid lifter buckets
Supertech springs and retainers.
new guides and seals.
single groove keepers on valves.
they are working out the lash caps now....
but check the difference with the side shotz of cams. stock is on the left. some little bit more lift and duration i would say. wonder if its gonna lope like a Chevy?? LOL
