Hang in there!

We all have our limits, and hopefully all you need is a bit of a rest/recharge.

keep your head up brooooski

if i had a crank i'd give it to you lol

but ya, we all go thru it. I wanted to kick my car for the past month. Its for smaller issues, but its all relative considering im a college student and all and how little money i make. Now *everything* is fixed, and I am having a blast driving it even tho its slow as hell.

just step away and come back fresh when you are ready!

you'll be fine. youll have your beast motor this week hopefully, and if not...ill start the crank hunt tomorrow for cheap. and with the paint, thats f-ed if you ask me....but at the same time, im sure you have a compressor and no name paint guns are cheap, so you might as well do that yourself too.

i took last night off.... i even went to bed before 9pm. quite out of the ordinary. and i did work on it alot this weekend...

the big motor does not have a chance to be in the car on its first runs, period. it would need a couple trips to the dyno to be tuned. and being as how i have a full time (right now only 50+ hrs a week instead of the standard 60+) job, things just cant "happen" when i need them to.

i have 38 days left, if that shows you guys how close its getting. and i have tons of shit left to do. i wont finish the cage til i am done with the wiring and interior. which i am close.

MAACO will paint it for the same $$$ i would have to spend to get new paint and a gun for sure. thats three days. maybe i will just work on it til the weekend, and load it up and drop it off @ MAACO. maybe seeing it all one color (no two tone it would cost more (damned shitsack anyways)) will cheer me up. i did give it a quick wetsand in prep for the painting that never happened this past weekend.

but the crank hunt ends tonight. if i dont find one i will just pay the few hundo and get the one i have fixed. each day i wait is one more day lost. i guess it will be good, as it will stay for when the rabbit gets RWD via Quattro drivetrain this winter.

a great big WOO-SAH as i rub my ears...

i cant see how some of you guys can find interest in a project @ 5 yrs, like Jonathan and some of the other long term stuff.

thanks for the support, guys. maybe i am just Manstruating because nothing seems to be going right with it lately. and part of this comes from getting poked out of driving the rabbit pretty much all of last year, first half due to breakage and second half due to work.

and i have even been "Buying" weekends for the past 6 weeks, too, to get good time with this.

i send the wife and child away for the weekend so i can have peace and quiet to concentrate on it. this past weekend was an away weekend, this coming is a here one.

they go to her family in Seattle for the weekend. it works out all right.

and this wont be a 9 sec car with the smaller motor for sure.

oh, i picked up the lexan for the windshield. extra from the job i am doing.... 11' x 4' x 1/8", so i have a couple tries at it.

and all the rest of my aluminum goods i picked up as well today.

just have TPS and VSS to wire in on the harness. all else is P-n-P. VSS takes a reluctor interface, its in the mail.

both door bars and driver side sill bar need done.

i wrapped the header the other day.

need to run and terminate the sender units for engine monitoring stuff. figure out brake lights maybe. thats low priority though.

make a sunroof delete panel, PRE PAINT! mine blew off on the freeway. prob lexan.

make lower mounts for radiator.

finish plumbing oil cooler lines.

cooling lines need done.

have clutch line made.

need to figure out rear calipers for e-brake. Derek says i can redo the park brake things. gotta take that apart to see.

gotta wire in the driver window switch.

wire in the fan and fuel pumps.

i mounted the battery box and battery already.

need to mount and wire the rear cutoff switch and wire the front circuit breaker. then wire in starter and fuse box/relay plate.

gotta make a hanger for the exhaust, when its back on the car. i want to make a beauty plate to fill the oversized hole they put in the fender for it.

gotta take it to get aligned once i am done dicking with the suspension. also have to commit to the spring rates i have before that time. 900 rear and 650 front. anyone object? if so, what then? Janis 400 x 4 corners is a little light from videos that i watch. kinda bouncy.

and i still have yet to think about limiting the front end.

gotta mount the radiator overflow can, and plumb it in.

i have to figure out a throttle cable, and make mounting stuff for it.

have to make a vac header for all vac/boost accessories. may just steal rabbit one.

need to remake the WG dump tubes and figure out plumbing on the dual WG's. i got some SS flex tube for that. will make the required shape for the dumps, and then tack them into that configuration.

need to finish welding closed all the unused holes on the firewall.

man, i have a bit left to do, and i am sure i am forgetting something.

oh yes, drain and fill trans and diff, install welded center diff, pull this block out and install pink block, once we go thru the bottom end with a new crank (fixed maybe) and new bearings, etc.

i got a bit to do.

and seeing Johnny's post, made me think of a couple more things.

seat needs mounted to harness bar. and i still have to install the harness also.

install rear windows, and trim and rubber....

but you also have a metric fu(kload already done. and this thing will be one of a kind when its finished. so stop getting all down, cause you know its going to get done. and itll all work out.

....and then you can piss yourself the first time down the track with it.

Aaron, I am glad you are back at it. I know how it feels to have deadlines with projects, but if it's not ready for this year, at least then you have all the time you need to really complete it in peace.
Worse case, screw the paint, and concentrate on what will get the car running. At least for myself, hearing the engine run is normally VERY motivating.
If there's anything I can do, PLEASE don't hesitate to ask!!!

haha. yeah, i understand about the paint thing not slowin a person down. but all this hard work, just want it to look the biz is all.

i know my spirits would lift big if it were all shiny'd up, too. but then just more apt to scratch it is all....

i did the turbo oil feed line, the head-to-res coolant line, and painted the header wrap tonight. nothing major.

i also gotta swap the crank trigger plugs as well, i cant fit the newer (06A) plug into the AEB block.

well, maybe if i whip out a grinder. hmmmm.

Aaron, yeah ok phew glad to hear you are back at it!!! i wouldnt want to have to bust out the verbal ass whooping stick haha

man this post was going to be much longer if you didnt buck up liek you have. anyways

i totally feel your pain, ive been home out of work all summer, living with my mother!! and just been working on the car 55+ hours weekly bare min. every week for almsot 3 months, all may, june, and what part of july has gone past, and TONight, 20 min ago it finally moved under its own power jsut to go outside here in the middle of the night for a quick 5 min dust wash off with the hose,, and its raining here, but i wasnt gonna make the car sit out side in teh rain all night,

anyways there were weeks when everything id touch would break or need parts that i would have to order, i tried to wait until the last minute to pull the motor out of the working 4kq and it seemed as though i paid for overnite parts 20+ times only to still no tyet have it going agh

if you need motivation above the standard, stare at crazy 20vT vids on youtube all day, but if you need REAL MOTIVATION than sit down and think how you would feel bailing on it, and then seeing some kid roll by in the same setup, i did that a few times, and damn i got a wrench in my hand in no time, i wanna drive my 20vT 4kq now!! and buck up and get out there, ive personally never seen a turbo 4kq in the wild, and it owuld light a major fire under my ass if i did and mine still wasnt done,

buckle down, print out that list that you wrote on the last page and just start crossing things off, and yeah paint o look Biz is great, work hard and there'll still be time

uh oh better get MAACO

Aaron, let me ask a friend of mine tomorrow. He bought a reman 1.8T from VW and removed the crank because the pilot bearing hole was totally wrong for a Fox transmission.

it has to be an 058/external water pump block. not the newer 06A/internal pump.

'preciate it :)

Is this the motor that Issam is building for you? I thought you sub contracted out all of the engine build to him?

since i am running out of time, i chose to use the rabbits' motor for the startup of the car. the rabbit motor is all tuned, so there is about 3 weeks i save in my schedule doing this. also, while trying to figure out all the things on the chassis, i wont be fighting the motor during this period. just one less thing to try and dial in all at once, i guess you could say.

BUT; after i gut the rabbit, i find out that it has an auto crank in it, and i need a manual crank for the provision of a pilot bearing. i pull the crank out of my spare block (manual) and send it off for polishing. magnaflux = ok. .006" out-of-round.

thats what i learned yesterday.

the motor (block only) Issam built is on the way. customs reaaaaalllllllly blows BTW.

Yup, external pump AEB. Waiting to hear back from him. I don't know whether he still has it, and I don't know whether it was manual or automatic. I do know that we chewed up the bushing insert trying to remove it. It looks like an insert, anyway.

yes, that is a pilot bearing in there.... so it would have been a manual as the auto doesnt have that (AFAIK).

thanks Jonathan :)
