so the NHRA has made amendments to the cage rules. a different setup for the "D" bars. no more going to the floor. needs to go to the side of the tunnel or to a bar that goes from hoop leg to leg.
funny thing, its so much more work to do now, too. they say you can have plates welded to the rocker panels, and this bar go across the car, and then mount the hoop legs to it. all well and good if i built a cage THIS YEAR! i built it last year, so i gotta change some stuff.
and finally, i do some work on the car.... WOOHOO!!!!!

and along with this, imma put the AWIC ice reservoir up on the back seat area like i wanted it in the first place. i thought i would have driver seat convenience by having it in the pass seat area. F-that, its in the way there.
YAY!!!!! i am working on this car!!!!!!
also, unrelated, but i picked up a COMPLETE VR6 longblock for $100.... IM, ex mani, all acc, TB, everything.
and NO ITS NOT GOING IN THIS CAR

its no good for me to be bored, have too much time on my hands, and a car to work on
i changed the WG dump tubes, i didnt like them the way they were. JC Whitney to the rescue, with some flex pipe in SS..... ATPTurbo.com for a pair of Tial WG outlet flanges (v-band) and Joey welded them on for me. i just melt thru this thin shit like nobody's business.
also, i figured out what roll cage bars i needed, took some tube to Vanderbecks (local race car builder, he bends the tube for me), just waiting on the call to pick em up. these guys build some bad ass cars..... i am gonna have to schedule a time where i can go out and crawl around under a few of them, get some idears for the next rabbit iteration.
here is a pic or two, nothing much really. have yet to trim the second tube. will make a bracket to mount to the factory front sway bar tab there.

the flex tubes are the open dumps for the two wastegates.... i have a dual scroll manifold, thus have two wastegates, one for each paired cylinder set.
i picked up my head today, and happy about that. back to the first head, majorly ported small port head. the 592 AWHP head. added +1mm OS intake valves this trip. still the inconel exhaust, ST springs/retainers, CAT cams. also blended the bowls more, and behind the valves was worked over to about 70 degrees to actually take advantage of the larger valves. then a 3-angle valve job, lap in the valves, cut .007, done. also polished the cam journals while in there.
also working on the changes to the roll cage. i got my cross bar approved, now to get his blessing on the "D" bars and we are in business. first T-n-T is Mar 5, and i am trying to be there. i will wait til the final word/blessing is given on the cage, then i will post pix of the changes.

2010 roll cage changes are in effect. my inspector said this is what he wanted to see, and he ran it by the HEAD NHRA Chassis guy in NC.
the AWD falls with RWD category for the trans tunnel, and they want an extra cross bar in the car now. it was this or to 6x6 plates welded to the tunnel SIDES, for the "D" bars, from the hoop/harness bar to the tunnel or floor. i am not done yet, i am going to plate the tunnel top as extra, and tie the bar in front and rear.

Man - that is awesome, I love it:
Who built your fuel surge tank - or did you do it? I would like to have a unit container like that.
Please contact me when you have an opportunity, I would like to talk to you if you have time. my email is
fjrmitch@bellsouth.net
From there we can open a line of communication. I look forward to talking to you.
Awesome --- the post finally came through. there is a delay that I'm not accustomed to.... please disregard the Roderic of the following post:

The only way I can respond is to Quote the last person to leave a message.Hybrid_Hatch wrote:that is because the fender is from a b4 not a cq or cabspeeding-g60 wrote:one thing i am sure someone will have to mention, but the fender trim does not match the door trim.

I look forward to talking to you. I can not figure out the post system on this forum. I'm probably overlooking the most obvious but -- none the less ... please contact me so we can continue our conversation --- your car is no less than absolutely awesome.

i already had my rear mounted battery cutoff. the red cable is the power FEED to the front circuit breakers. the green cable is the alternator output, and it goes to the battery side of the cutoff switch. if i connected it to the starter like normal, and the cutoff switch was turned off, the car would stay running from the alternator.....
catch 22. so i just ran the charge wire to the rear.
they do sell the correct switch to make this happen, but i already had this one.

so. i have some updates.....
i got my shortblock.
and i took apart the gold motor, but i am sure we can already guess what that news is. ready, ready. yes.
the tool steel tapered end pins i bent them.
the piston wrist pin bores i wobbled them. :?
the rod bushings i wobbled them too. :(
completely wasted it again. full motor. so, i am throwin the dice. putting the big motor in, with the short block made by Issam and the head made by Joey. it is the last straw for my race career. lets hope i can get to the track
cuz once this one is done, so am i.
had some issues with the trans as i went to put axles back in, as well. got it sorted out though.... and that gave me time today to install the NHRA drive-shaft loop. WOOT one step closer. i also got a new radiator and AWIC. but i pressure tested my AWIC to 100 psi and no leaks. all this wrist pin damage is coming from the head lift incidents, water gets in the motor and hydralocked. the weaker ( 0.140 wall) wrist pins broke. the stronger ( 0.180 wall) wrist pins bent. JE has one size larger, @ 0.210 wall. that would probably break the crank knowing my luck LOL.
so to save much needed funds, i skipped rebuilding the hydro motor, straight to solid lifter setup, and pray. i meant it when i said when this one is done so am i.
