hahaha......
how many people in the VAG world do you know or hear of actually DEGREE the cams? dial them in to the block? with dial indicators, degree wheels, etc?
see, my cam card calls for 106 degrees, but the experts say that it will be better for me to run it at 112 degrees....
its in the works. that and i have been stuck in Las(t) Vegas for the past two weeks which means nothing can i do from here for the car LOL.
thanks for bumpin it up.
you deserve a picture or two, Chris, for your patience.

Jimmy, the link you sent was to the thread of the car in PVW
but its all good.
and reckless, i had thought everyone had seen the thread of the buildup of the car.
i did stop at the shop and fondle my motor today some. i cant freakin wait to drive it. an i had a chance to see some other cool stuff. the red rabbit has a roll bar and is an auto-X car i believe. there is another MK1 rabbit with a hot looking chromed out hopped up turbo 16V in it. it had a thread on VWKotex on it, called project poopschool or something like that. the kid sold it, and the new owner is finishing it up. i think the user was mk1Alexander..... anyhow, i dont picture other peoples cars without their knowledge when i see them at the shop...... just how i am.
had a dream i slapped a 30 day temporary tag on it, insured it, wired in some brake lights, tossed on the RS-4 rep rims (which it is sitting on at this moment), and broke it in ON THE STREETS!!!!!! and i didnt even get any tickets (in my dream, but reality would be a different story LOL).

As usual Nate you are correct.newt wrote:Every build we do with cams get degreed on the motor, only way to do it and know where you're at. You can _never_ trust the marks or keying on aftermarket cams.speeding-g60 wrote:hahaha......

bored today. pulled trailer out and dropped rear ramp door. painted. done.
now what?
oh yeah, i can make something. so i went to my machine shop (actually just out to the garage for a grinder, cordless drill, MIG, cut-off grinder, tape measure, tap set) and made this cool little thing.
it is an adapter piece so i can use an ABF alternator setup on the 06A style block. Issam has them in production, but i cant wait, i got shit to do. so since i was bored today i made one. (well, this is the second, the first was practice
)
and yes, the one hole is counterbored. done with drill bit. i made the two plates welded together have 1/16" gap (what was needed to make the right spacer), and welded around the perimeter. that way when i drilled the counterbore with a regular drill bit, it would not chamfer the bottom plate too much. cleaned it up a little with an end grinder, and it worked like a dream. i had to sink that one screw so the bracket would sit flush. the first one i made put the tapped hole too close to the counterbore hole, so i made a new one and tapped thru both to make plenty of threads to grab.
cut a little rounded edges into it to help remove stress risers, polished it up a little, and VIOLA.
craptastical phone pix, but i was there with it so thats what we get. also note: the shiny aluminum alt pulley. that is actually oversized to reduce the amount it turns, as i plan to have this thing wound out. these alternators have a tendency to not like high ass rpm's in my experience, so i asked Issam to make me a couple oversized (as opposed to the normal underdrive style which would just turn it faster) so he did. i am sure he made a few, i know Johnny got one as well.
ENJOY.

we took the cams to 112 deg instead of the 106 deg they called for on the advice of Pete and Bob and Collin (IE, QED, TT)
after this, the head was boroscoped to verify clearance for valve to piston. all is well.
Joey @ DJM, you the MAN!!!!!! and thanks to Pete, Bob, Collin for their advice and input
and some neat lil vids i made, 'scoping the combustion chamber and stuff haha
