Anybody else giggle a little at the wood dash plate still in the car? Just ironic that something that fast still has a bit of audi class

well, rule of thumb is stated as:

To break it down in quarter-mile drag racing, every 100 lb removed from a vehicle equals [approx.] 1/10th of a second improvement. That might sound unimpressive when written on paper but those tenths of a second can mean the difference between winning a race by a mere bumper's length and staring at your competitors taillights in defeat.

and the way i got it figured, the car sits ~2600 pounds right now. and i can lose a fair bit by doing simple things like removing all of the sound deadening crap and undercoating crap. my cage is ERW and if i went Chr or DOM it would reduce a bit of that as well.

i would say i could get 200lb out of the car i believe..... truly believe, not pipe-dream believe.

Do you plan on losing personal weight as well? Not saying you need to of course, but there's always personal gain by shedding a few pounds!

i personally could lose another 20lbs (after losing 30lbs over the last year)

How about a leight weight dash? that's like 20lbs?

what brakes do you have?

what else can you "realistically" lose?

i wanna see 8's! congrats aaron, you the man.

Do you plan on losing personal weight as well? Not saying you need to of course, but there's always personal gain by shedding a few pounds! already shed >50lb this year alone. that may account for some of it. at least according to my friends locally anyways!

i personally could lose another 20lbs (after losing 30lbs over the last year)

How about a leight weight dash? that's like 20lbs? this dash is GUTTED.. it cant weigh 10 lb if that.

what brakes do you have? all stock

what else can you "realistically" lose?

i wanna see 8's! congrats aaron, you the man.

me, you, and every other person who knows the car wants to see eights! it would be the first/only Quattro drivetrain drag car to do it. world wide. 4/5/6/8 cyl all inclusive. PERIOD.

if i ditch the ERW cage and put in Cro/DOM i could easily lose 50-80 lbs. no sh!t.
if i spent the time and stripped all of the sound deadening/undercoating, i could lose maybe 30-40 lbs?
if i took all the glass out and did 100% lexan, i could lose another 50+ lbs?

and if i did some constructive lightening, i could lose another 50-100 lbs. like making my motor mounts out of less than 1/4" plate, stuff like that. i built heavy duty as that is what i know. overbuild in the first place, thus you wont rebuild. because if you have the time/money to do it over, you have it to do correctly in the first place!

if i do some creative shit modifications (read my v-gate and/or strain gauge to cut power) i could maybe gain another tenth/sec plus on the shifts.

it is not in the realm of impossible, but it is in the realm of "lots of freakin work". lets see what happens when i do this bigger camset and head swap. it should make more power for sure. ;)

believe me, that i do not think it just wont come to me. at this level, a tenth of a second is a lot of work. but, i have come this far, and if you think i am gonna lay down and take this as the end result, well you are sorely mistaken.

oh yes, and things here dont stop.

just because i dont post it, dont mean it aint happenin.

upping the level on the filming gear. going all gopro now. and turned down GoPro's offer of "sponsorship" as it didnt fit what i need to fill my plate. i already bought 4 full motorsport camera sets.

Image

Image

all i need (want?) is one more, a Hero2, so i can do live streaming! and i need to get 4 bacpac wifi and one wifi remote bacpac. thus, i have one button start/stop recording. simplifies things.

and, i made room in the garage to pull the car in, so i can pull the motor early (planned to do it in winter) so we can go thru it. its been driven hard. it saw >12k rpm on a misshift recently, so it is time to look at things. i wanted to do this later on down the road, so i could finish the BIG CAM head and put it on then. alas, i ordered all the new parts yesterday and will proceed with a new head/motor at this time.

Image

i did Ferrea +1mm valves all around, and gonna use the IE custom grind big cam solid lifter setup. going to run a ported AEB head (most likely) that will be flowbench tested. have IE springs/retainers already, and of course the big cams.

the advertised duration of these cams is 288/289 exhaust. and 310 intake!!!! big mama jamma's! and 11mm lift on each cam! i had lots of head grinding to do just to get the cams to spin freely!!!

Image

Image

just sayin. just cuz i dont bump this thread dont mean things aint a happenin 'round here!

that's awesome. if you switched to a lighter weight brake set up that would help a lot as you probably already know, like the 2 piece rotars, those definitely shed some rotating mass.

silly question... but do drag cars only run 1 set of brakes? like a front set only or a rear set only? i mean it's only 1 brake from 150mph, could you stop efficiently with only front brakes? or only rear brakes? (obviously slower, but that's 40lbs right there easily! but you survived with your staging brake only when you were squirting fluid everywhere, so there's plenty of room to slow down slowly)

just a thought, call me crazy.

i stopped with a 'chute only basically. i suppose had i really panicked i coulda pulled the ebrake in a controlled fashion to help stop me, but it didnt occur to me and didnt seem necessary.

i dunno, i dont want to be the guinea pig really. i am good with what i got.

more power is next, THEN maybe some lightening and then some chassis tuning. i dunno. it all depends on how the teardown goes this weekend or whenever i get to it.

well. to be fair (and between us LOL) it wasnt "sponsorship". they have enough of that they said. i wonder, how many world record cars they have on their ticket though.

anyhow, their offer was a "Pro Deal". a percentage off of retail (a decent amount, too) that initially included all products. i had already purchased with MY MONEY 4 full kits. and then reading further, for what i needed to do, and the fact that the accessories that i was wanting werent included in the deal, i didnt feel it a good move on my part to become a slave to them for peanuts as the parts i want(ed) werent included in the offer.

the requirements they asked were pretty much what they would ask of a full ride sponsorship, IMHO.

i passed. i only need a few hundo more worth of gear to be complete. its not like i was asking for anything like 10 Gopro's or even any cameras at all.

is cool. no worries here. i can wait to include live real-time streaming video to my arsenal of coolness!

and, i wont be "claiming" or "advertising" all GoPro footage, either. by choice. not having a GP logo in every shot, not having GP in the credits and GP.com in the creds. nto tagging both GP and GP.com in all online sharing. etc.... it seemed a fair bit of work for very little return....

what i was after, was one-source starting and stopping of all recording. something that can now happen with wifi bacpacs slaved to a single wifi/remote bacpac.

that is what i ultimately use, in the end of all things.

there is more cage weight to be lost if its legal in yours series, what about the t45 material that Haydn(timmmmy) used in the time attack car?
http://www.motorgeek.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=46631

there is probly no more that 20 lbs of sound deadening and undertar, but much more than 50 lbs to be lost by going lexan windows
http://www.lexan-windows.com/
Plastics 4 Performance makes lexan windows for the cq/s2
heres a recent email price quote i got

We can do you fully thermoformed kit consisting of:

- Pre formed front side windows
- Pre formed rear quarters with black oem border
- Pre formed rear screen with black oem border

We can do them in 4mm clear lexan, at £ 432,35 plus vat and shipping
We also do a 4mm scratch resistant type at £ 734,99 plus vat and shipping
Do you need sliders fitted?? as we can do those at extra costs.

they also have a stiffener piece as the tops of the doors have no frame to support the window

and if i did some constructive lightening, i could lose another 50-100 lbs. like making my motor mounts out of less than 1/4" plate, stuff like that. i built heavy duty as that is what i know. overbuild in the first place, thus you wont rebuild. because if you have the time/money to do it over, you have it to do correctly in the first place!

make the motor mounts equally rugged but use thick aluminum, it take gross overbuilding in alu to come close to the weight of the steel version

I have been going through every page of this thread for the last 3-4 days and I must say: Seriously impressed with the tenacity and the achievements. 3.5 years work to go 9.34? Holy crap...

I knew you kicked ass Aaron, but this is an inspiration.
Just kept on looking at how cool the SHORT straight pipe to the AWIC looks.
If I ever get the cash together for my B4 AEB swap, I will go AWIC just because it is cool and different. It will not be a drag car, however.

Aaron Quattro bar has been raised, 9 -10 jun. 2012 carbon destroyer did run 8.8sec in a ¼, it can be done but amount of power to weight ratio, $$ is pretty insane to get there .
