it was fun. it didnt break.

i put the ceramic bronze discs back in, and my short track suffered huge from clutch slip. this much higher power did not even attempt to play nice this time. every 60' was 1.8x.... to my best 1.40 and usually 1.5's. this made my best ET yesterday 10.14.

BUT my traps remained in the 152-153 range, so that was good there, a sure sign its making more power now that it is sealed up a little better.

had a good time, and a good way to retire the car for the winter at a great show put on by great people in front of a huge crowd of VW/Audi nuts!!!

so, a tryout for no-lift-shifting. poor clutch discs did NOT appreciate this. but, i will say that once the new shifting methods get squared away, its gonna be ON with a capital O-N!

and doing some medium level surgery.

wanted to tie in the front end to the cage. so that is being done. moving the firewall. thinking about a dry sump setup. the shifter is hopefully on its way.

i dunno, but i get bouts of ADHD pretty bad, see a shiny, and off i go! happened about 6 times today alone!

so, everything yellow gets axed. some stuff gets put back in, like the firewall gets moved into the compartment a foot or more, that stuff.

Image

and its time for some trimming stuff out.

Image

Image

Image

its good having a full REAL race car shop not too far. take straight bar stock, have mandrel bends a little bit later!

so before, i tied the top front side of the strut tower to the lower framehorn where i chopped it off. and that is good, but i wanted better. it didnt tie in to the full cage. so, i put another bar into the area, from the A-pillar upright thru the firewall/cowl, and run it by the strut top and back into the framehorn. gusset the strut tower top to the bar, and tie it in. then triangulate the tower back to the dash bar center, and no more cross-bay strut bar, too.

its working in my head....

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

who completely guts their car down to full harnesses and all? me, cuz i am bored.

Image

gettin a last look at it before i go cut crazy.

Image

and a few minutes or so later, i have a starting place LOL

Image

Image

added one tie in bar up front

Image

then i got the true fabrication tools out. cardboard, scissors, Sharpie. and putting in some time on the strut tower.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

while doing this, i decided to "notch" the frame rail for more clearance with the rear WG. soooo, i had to fill that hole in some.

Image

and of course, while the motor (which will now be the ready to run backup motor) was out, lets check the clutches....

Image

i guess clutches and donuts are alike. glazed is what we get!

yeah i was doing something, then i saw something else and next i knew the windshield (lexan) was out. i was thinking about getting a spot-weld remover bit, but decided to try a regular 1/2" bit to see if it worked. and next i knew, the whole under dash steel was wasted.

its fun. i like this stuff, its my hobby.

Any reason you are keeping the "OEM" towers and rails? It seems you could gain a bunch of space by going to tube ahead of the firewall.

dont want the mess of the burnout all over everything up front there. only reason. that and the subframe mounts to the rails. i cut them off originally right after they are no longer needed structurally for the motor mounts. if i remove d the entire OEM stuff up front, i may as well make a whole new front subframe system and all. or no subframe.

i didnt want to go "that far" into it really. but it crossed my mind yeah. that befuddled crazy over driven space up there.....

Mmmmm. Glazed donuts.....

Aaron. I like the way you work. I've done some of the same things you're doing to the front end right now. (In my mind ;-p ) Keep those pictures coming!!

yeah one of about 4 different iterations. this one was to lift it up and out of the way for trans removal. also notice, no more dampener on it either.

and so, i been neglecting the car for a bit. hurt my back some....

have 4 bulged discs one with a tear and one with a 4mm chunk broken off. so i been trying my best to lay low and not push it.

but i did do some stuff, yep. some lightening stuff, like dash and such. more cardboard!

Image

Image

and i used my redneck brake. put on one table line up the line. clamp old kitchen countertop to it on top, and push. works great~!!

Image

Image

i need a new Boost gauge. this one dont go high enough anymore haha

and thats a rough cut. please do not be alarmed. it needs lots of trimming yet, but i do have the pass side planned out already. waiting on my shifter (SURPRISE!!) so i can get all of that clearanced correctly from the start. will be going cross-car from tower to tower for structural integrity......
