Well, my weekend got cut short at Spring Mountain due to the charge piping blowing apart. I dealt with this 2 years ago and it's stayed together since then, put it back together and it held again 'til last night. I had to do a u-turn on Sahara which is a nice 6-wide major street in Vegas. This was to be no average u-turn, I was on the throttle to pitch the car and just peel ass into a nice drift. PoP the car straightened out, the tire smoke cleared and I limped to the restaurant with my tail between my legs.

Tired of dealing with this.

I have a bead roller that I use mostly for the patch panels on my Lancia project. It's probably not quite the right tool for aluminum (at least .065 that is) but I managed to put some nice beading around the pipes.

Image

It's a lil' tricky working with tubing, until you get a good bead started it really wants to walk around.

Image

Here is both pieces completed, I need to take one joint out of the system and just get a 90º with a longer leg but with an intercooler change in my near future I didn't want to spend too much time on it.

Image

I topped off with about 5 gallons of 100 Octane yesterday and we have a nice cool day here in the valley - perfect for taking a ride and beating the p*ss out of this thing so I can be sure it's not coming apart again. ...or at least the charge piping isn't coming apart. This PITA has been the sole reason I have only been running 20psi ;o]

You're not serious are you? Didn't you see that cloud on the NW part of the valley? Be careful and don't stray too far from the garage with the intake tract blowing QUEEN. In all seriousness, the solution looks to be a good one and one that I may have to use one day. Nice work

Harbor Freight baby!

It works well on sheet metal and decent on the piping, I can't see spending the extra money for a "better" one - from what I can tell they are ALL the same until you REALLY spend big money.

As far as I could tell that wasn't no rain cloud - but even if it was - Im ready for it now! A buddy got me a deal on some fixtures for the garage, works at an electrical supply here in town. We settled on FIVE 8' fixtures, one over each bay and one each over the work benches.

Image

The bad thing is now I can see how dirty my garage is. Oh yea, and just how many projects I have going.

He does have a pretty decent sized garage. The lights look good Sean, now either get ur done or look into some way to keep that well lit space cool. It won't be long and playing tourismo in the A/C will sound way more appealing than doing anything in a 110deg garage.

Well, I just sent in my pre-entry info for the Spectre 341 Challenge (formerly Virginia City Hill Climb). If I make the grade I will send in the official entry and the $$ If accepted I'll make a quick trip up to Reno to scout the course and see if the UrQ is even feasible (4:11's) - 5 mile course 22 turns, some very tight and technical. Also looks like there are a couple straights which could be close to 3/4 mile though too.

Based on what people know of my car, what things should I focus on to prep for an event like this?

- I'm ordering harnesses this week.
- I have to check the date code on the Hankook race tires from Jim E to see if they are within their 24 month age requirement.
- Going to need a way to haul the car up there and back - hopefully in the same condition it went up.
- What is the biggest / baddest brake combo that will fit under UrS4 wheels shod with DOT race rubber?

Im finally getting around to posting this shameful dyno sheet from a couple weeks ago. Aaron's Coupe far out shined my expectations, the Blue Pill obviously likes the open road more than being chained to a Mustang Dyno.

My first pull was the best, heat soak set in and ruined the numbers. After drenching the steaming intercooler and giving the car time to cool between runs all it could muster is a corrected 222.1 AWHP / 249 AWTQ based on the cover sheet which I haven't scanned.

Image

Each subsequent run lost significant horsepower so it was apparent that heat-soak in the stock UrQ intercooler was my enemy. No use tearing it up on a dyno. I think there is a bunch more power to be extracted by timing alone, the car pulled and sounded great at 24 psi, no missing or anything weird. The car really needs the 944t intercooler installed and to be tuned on the dyno by a pro.

The car did great on the dyno!! Peak torque and still ~200awhp @4k makes for a waaay drivable car, especially coupled with the 4:11 gearing. I think you are on to something about wanting to do the Tahoe hill climb. When is the date? If Aaron will let us borrow his trailer, I could quite possible be talked into towing it up with the truck.

I better make up my mind in a hurry, I got accepted - just have to send in the $$ and commit to it.

When? I would need to get it off and repair the A/C in the truck for a trip like that.

Do it, Sean. I'd have to google the course, if it exists some place online, but 4.11 should not be too hard in 5 miles and 22 turns....it all depends how tight it is really, but it can't be that tight. Road America for example is what, just over 4 miles and you have 14 turns there. Where are you getting 4.11 number from? Previous years, the class you'd fall in?

Get some fresh rubber. UrS4 wheels clear my 996/997 calipers mounted on RS2 carriers. Maybe need a spacer to clear the spokes...but that's on a Coupe, FWIW.

I would love to do some hill climbs, but as you know, no hills around here anywhere.

the 4.11 number is the gear ratio of his car???

I know that...but from this:

"I'll make a quick trip up to Reno to scout the course and see if the UrQ is even feasible (4:11's) - 5 mile course 22 turns"

I think he's talking time to cover the course.

yeah, 4:11's are great for the twisties but once the road straightens out you lose that top end.

Yea my comment about 4:11's was relating to whether Id be wasting my time on an open course with such short gears. That ratio on a 20v wouldn't be an issue with all the rev's available to me, but as you see on the chart above the 20v would be wailing on some of those long straights.

I wish there was more info on the classes and how they were broken down into groups. I have a feeling this is going to get really expensive really quick!

Pete, good to meet u as well, hope the rest of your trip went well and you saw some great sights along the way.

:slap: At the end of the day, it will always be a replica worth nothing On second thought, it does seem to be a pretty nice replica, not one of those F40 Fiero's

Im sure many in our community currently chopping up actual quattros would argue the devaluation. I think as long as the end result wreaks of quality and attention to detail you will recoup your 'value'. The Hawk kit from what I remember is really the one to have, the cars are tooled from some of the original jigs yet updates to the geometry have been made to calm some of its tendencies. I have seen original Lancia Stratos in person when they have been on display at the Collections at Imperial Palace. The original car is pretty crude and purpose built... Something like this would have to be a labor of love as opposed to being conscious of the $$

Some people bust my balls about being willing to sell the UrQ. I do love the car, but I love ALOT of cars, and I can't seem to own any of them until I sacrifice something significant.

I'm impressed you've owned the Blue Pill as long as you have. Since i've known you it seems about 3yrs is the limit. I've often wondered if you would be able to own a beater Urq or at least one that wasn't so pristine. I know that you like your cars well sorted, but sometimes it takes some of the enjoyment out of owning them. I think that you need to start looking for a bigger piece of property that you could have 10 cars inside a BIG garage.
