I like what you are doing with your motor-ectomy/ transplant!
Re: I took the BLUE Pill. 10v-ectomy, it's time.
Ugh. I really don't want to see this.......this is a wrench in my stroker works.... "like a splinter in your mind..."
Ed and i were chatting about this yesterday. He's going to be in town next month, maybe i could make a day trip up while he's out for a little get together for 2.5 ooggling?!

I was thinking on my way home yesterday that aside from the packaging and weight advantages, we probably have more 07Ks on the road in the US than 3b, AAN, ABY, & tall deck blocks worldwide.
Re: I took the BLUE Pill. 10v-ectomy, it's time.
Yeah, mine are better. Weight savings is the bonus of this motor, those covers are the opposite of our goal

Stop on by, give us a little notice and we can pull the locals together for an evening out at the speedway.

The supply of these is almost limitless compared to the 3b / aan options.

I forgot to include the infamous 7a

yes, 2.5L 5 cylinder, still surprised it is still only a 20v, I would have expected a 25 valve.
it is amazing how cheap and readily available they are.

Are the new I4s even 20v anymore?
Shipping is killer on that ebay one!

Looking forward to this one! With all these 2.5 motors around I might be tempted to try something like that for the Sport project.
This project comes to mind

Quick one, does it bolt up to the 01E or adapter is needed?
Cheers

Re: I took the BLUE Pill. 10v-ectomy, it's time.
we has the technology. Bolt up is a little bit of a stretch, but it does go together without much pain other than sorrow of cutting an 01e bell housing.
We will offer the entire kit for those without fab skills. Mounts, oiling solutions, pans, manifolds, ect. Everything is either manufactured, or is being manufactured to make it as easy as a regular aan swap. It won't be cheaper than your "part an s4 out" build, but it will be very close to those motor build swaps where manifolds and 01e's are being put in anyways. Bonus is that the motors are cheap. My local LQK has 22(twenty-two) in Las Vegas with the average 22k mile 2009 motor going for sub 500$. It is so nice not having to fight 25 year old fasteners!! This will be a motor that is around for a LONG time.
Did I mention that the Gallardo valve cover bolts up? 540hp out of a 5.0L N/A translates into 270hp out of a 2.5 N/A. This thing should be a beast on boost. The head is THAT good. With companies like INA offering CNC heads, Dry sump and better accessory setups, this should be a well supported motor for a while.

Majority of it is available now. Couple of hard items being revised and tested in the next 2 weeks.
Cool thing about hte 20v is that it shares the 88mm bore spacing with the old aan based motor. This means intakes are virtually the same and the exhaust manifolds only require equal spacing of the ports vs the aan's goofy offset ports.

Re: I took the BLUE Pill. 10v-ectomy, it's time.
Thats going to be a cool project...might even change the direction I am going with my urq.
So, my stupid question of the day is......If the kit can make it bolt to a 01e then will it work with an 016?
Also how much room do you gain in the front?
Cheers,
Douglas

About 4 inches over the original Audi I5...

Note that the r5 TDI they are referencing in that graphic is the serpentine belted tdi, much like the AAN. A v-belt like the URQ would be another 1.25"
Re: I took the BLUE Pill. 10v-ectomy, it's time.
I'm pretty sure the 589mm of the R5 T (Audi) is the V belt version. At least, it appears that way as you can see the distinct 3 v-belt grooves forward of the cam cover...
Re: I took the BLUE Pill. 10v-ectomy, it's time.
589mm just doesn't check out with the WX/MC measurement. I'll double check in the morning.
Re: I took the BLUE Pill. 10v-ectomy, it's time.
My 7a on the stand is 23 3/16 (588.9625) from trans mounting surface to stock v-belt pulley.
Re: I took the BLUE Pill. 10v-ectomy, it's time.
I can't wait until morning! I just checked an MC2 I have laying around...From the bellhousing mounting plane to the front the the crank pulley was roughly 23 1/16, or 586 mm.
Either way, it's a ton more space to utilize...
And Ed, those numbers don't compute with the conversion factor...but I agree with the 586...

Re: I took the BLUE Pill. 10v-ectomy, it's time.
Yeah, 19.5" is even shorter than I had eyeballed. The front of the head(the WHOLE part above the front pulley) is about 3/4" shorter, so about 18.75".
