Loxxrider's 200 20v Revver: See you on "The Project Pad"
Well, the good news is that my cover came in. I haven't had a chance to wash the car, so the cover hasn't been on it.
The bad news is that I think I need to stop ignoring my Pentosin leak...lol I'm pretty sure I need to replace the steering rack and high pressure hose.
Anyone have a good source for a rack?...or one laying around

Woohoo!
One kinda major step out of the way.
For one, a steering rack is coming my way this week.
For two, I just dropped a few $$s on a spare AAN block for me to have bored out/built, etc. while the other bottom is still in the car :-)
...I'm thinking the shop people at my school might let me use their CNC lathe and mill to do some of it myself
:-D .........or......maybe not lol
Either way, its progress.
The only issue that still needs to be addressed with the car is the ac compressor. It still doesn't kick on. I'm thinking its either bad MFTS as some have suggested, or a loose PS pump connection from when I did the PS and alt. pulleys.
I think I'll stick it out for a while though, because my money certainly doesn't grow on trees, and its starting to get nicer out here

Glad to see you are making progress on this one!
I know it's a little late in coming but I have found my audi's love to eat alternator belts. Most of this comes from the crank pulley. After a while they begin to wobble (I believe/hope it's due to the rubber dry rotting, otherwise my crank is jacked!) Anyway, after a couple of times it's a breeze! Knowing the procedure I can do it in 5 minutes or less in a dark parking lot or on the side of a busy highway. I always keep a spare as I've had 3 different 20v audis spit the belt in transit. Otherwise keep at it!
peace on it

yeah, I bet I could do it in about 5 minutes now too. Its not bad once you know what you are doing. I just wish the steering rack was going to be that easy :(

I replaced my steering rack boot without taking the rack out of the car. That said pull the knee bolster driverside 4mm allens, you may have to peal back the dash side panel at the door. Unbolting the the rack is pretty easy. 2 13mm bolts in the driver wheel well. One 13mm bolt/nut pass. side of the rack, you'll need to unbolt the steering damper IIRC it's a 17 bolt. Next is at the base of the steering column 2 13mm bolts/nuts
and the column separates from the rack. Once you have the rack free and moving you need to undo the hyd. lines off it 2 of them 17 or 19 mm banjo's IIRC. I'll take some pics and post em tomorrow for you. The rack comes out the pass. side tie rod opening.

Well, since I have the block coming to me soon, and I'm getting some time on the mills and lathes at school, I suppose it would be a good idea to get some idea for what I want the final specs to be on this bottom end.
Goals are to be capable of almost anything (700whp and more, although the goal is less than that for now)...and at the same time, it needs to be safe.
As far as rods are concerned, I think SCATs will suffice.
Crank will be stock, and untouched.
Pistons are where I am lost. I'm not quite sure what compression ratio to use, and not sure if it should be bored a little or not. Obviously it will get a hone if nothing else, but would 2.3l be a good idea?
The rest of the internals in the bottom end will be the best that 034 offers (rod bearings, coated everything, etc.)
ideas are welcome.

If you decide not to go with Garrett, Holset would be my 2nd choice.

Since you brought turbos up, there is one very interesting turbo out there called the AMS850R (designed with Precision I believe). It is brand new, but its supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread...that might be an interesting thing to look by the time the motor is ready to receive a new one.

When I built my 3B I bored it as little as possible. My pistons are 82mm. I figured the more meat I could leave in the block, the better for head sealing. Javad has proven that you can reliably seal 83+mm though. If your block is fine, and 99% chance it is, I'd just hone and re-ring it with the stock pistons.

Well, here is the block in question...Javad seems to think its good to go.

Its interesting that you say to use the stock pistons still...I know they are really nice, and definitely high-quality (forged Mahle units if I remember correctly?), but will they still be nice past 600whp and 8500-9500rpms?
By all means, I'd love to be able to forgo a custom set of JE's, but not if its going to sacrifice my block.

hrm.
pretty interesting.
I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try it out considering I'll still have another block, set of rods and pistons, and crank laying around...

Well, here is a soundclip for your listening pleasure from tonights car wash. I got some cool pics too, but I have to go to bed before I can post them.
This was recorded on my phone, so the quality isn't that great...but its still cool
Its open exhaust except for the cats.

well, I'm a sucker for editing my own pics. I have to get up in about 6 hours...but these were worth it to me.
Low res sucks (and photobucket rapes my pics), but if you want anything in high-res, all you have to do is ask!

and then for some reason, I felt compelled to edit one of the front shots to get this kind "looking down the side" effect that I wanted to capture while shooting. (unfortunately I had a really difficult time of it) I really had trouble with the cropping of it...but this was the only version that felt at least almost right.
I wanted the effect of a meaty stance...its something I can see when I'm actually looking at the car in person...but its really hard to convey with photos for some reason.

hope you all enjoy them

Been thinking of a few things.
Small thing I have in mind is a fuel surge tank setup. Depending on what I'm shooting for, this may become necessary. I don't have anything in mind just yet, but it should be simple enough.
I stumbled upon a gt40/42r hybrid, the gt4094r.
It has the same turbine wheel as the 40r, but a 94mm comp wheel instead of an 88mm. Seems like spool shouldn't be much different.
I still have a T67 in mind as an alternative. We shall seee
I def need to pick up some piping and a tig welder soon so I can get a proper exhaust and intercooler setup going. Prob getting a tial 50mm valve at some point. I think I will be leaving the stock wastegate for a while. Power will have to be somewhat conservative until I can get a good tranny in there.

yay, I called southbend and they are getting me a SICK clutch setup for this car...and they recommended the stock flywheel (which will be resurfaced of course).
full-faced ceramic clutch with pressure plate all sent straight from germany lol...950ft*lb of holding force. =)
oh, and I can get a good deal on a Tial 44mm gate...does anyone think that wont be enough?

yeah, thats true..I could probably sell it if I needed to for no loss.
How does $200 sound :-D
I **might** be able to get it for that.
Oh and one last thing...
I think this is going to be sweet
although I think some of you will think its :tard: ...but I go for function over form.
I am planning on buying some stainless piping and getting a nice dp fabbed up ( I need to get rid of the cats anyhow for when I want to try out the antilag)...anyway, the plan is to just go straight down with a 3" or so pipe, and make a left ASAP (looking into the bay) and exit right behind the front passenger wheel. A wastegate dump will follow in a fashion similar to this
