I feel so violated

Post by cuatrokoop »

The shop that I keep my Coupe in was robbed. Basically, they took everything of mine that wasn't bolted to the car. Well, I take that back, they took the wheels off my Coupe. Over $6k in parts, easily, gone. Including the PT code engine I had sitting, waiting to go in the Coupe. I'm so mad, pissed, etc. So, I have no engine or wheels for my Coupe, including one set of brand new 245 section Kumhos, a set of barely used Yokohama slicks, and a set of Sumitomos that were on the car. I have no engine stand. I have no engine hoist. They took the key out of the ignition switch and the Fuba antenna off the car. Fortunately, it looks like they left the stuff inside the car alone, so I still have my RS2 lights and other trim and body bits from the Coupe.

Where is it located?
Everybody keep your eyes on craigslist and ebay for that stuff. If somebody is selling Audi parts they're a little easier to track than japanese or bmw type parts.
Anything unique about stuff they stole?

really sorry to hear man.

That really blows!! I'm sorry to hear that Eric. Was it your new house or somewhere else? Commercial place where there is a possibility of insurance? Money can't get rid of the being violated feeling, but at least would help. Bummer.

The building is my grandmothers (my grandfathers old machine shop). If you know what my car looked like, you'll know two of the sets of wheels. I don't want to post too much, just needed to vent a bit. The business up front was also hit. The back section was my work shop. Makes me sick, I didn't have room in my garage yet for the engine or Coupe, so it had to sit there.

Stuff is all in Ohio, but it happened, as far as we can tell based on some clues, the weekend of the 3rd. I'll be needing some lug bolts, because the perps left them behind so the police took them and my factory lug wrench as evidence (along with cups, cigarette butts, etc). Mike, I may need help getting the car mobile if you have a spare set of 4x108's. As soon as my parents new barn is finished the coupe is being moved, along with what is left of my stuff. 6x full sets of wheels....

Thanks guys. I'm reviewing CL right now for my area, nothing. The one suspect we have is a drug addict, so the stuff is probably scrapped or sold/traded for drugs.

Hey Eric, let me know if you need anything too. I was pretty shocked when I got your voicemail, but from what you told me when I got that 20vt, it's not much of a surprise due to the area. Hoping you get proper compensation/parts returned. I'll keep an eye out on Mansfield and C-bus CL.

Believe it or not, other than graffiti we've had no trouble until now, and the guy doesn't live near the shop at all...there are some rough neighbors, I didn't always like going there to work (I'd lock myself in if it got dark, and I'd lock my kids in the car if I needed to grab a part). But, no trouble, not even broken windows from anything other than being 100+ years old (building was built in the 1890's and the 1910's, built in two or three parts).

WOW. that sucks Eric. I have no tolerance whatsoever for thieves. I hope the police manage to catch the dirtbags. In the future, may I suggest a simple DVR security system? it can really help in cases like this....

This makes me mad. I hate theft. Sorry to see this Eric especially after seeing you want to get going on the coupe again. I have two sets of ABT wheels 17x8. Maybe I can cut you a deal.

Thanks everyone. I'm not too hopeful, it was done over a week ago. A family friend had stopped by probably the day or two after it happened to pick up a wet saw to cut some tile, noticed it was missing and there was a bottle jack under the rear of my car, but didn't say anything to us.

Darin, I'll have to wait on insurance money, because I don't have the money to replace the stolen parts. This is assuming that insurance even covers it. If it doesn't, I have no idea what I am going to do.

So, if the businessman has some serial numbers of the stuff that was stolen from his section of our building, we may be able to get a warrant for this drug addict kid because some items happened to turn up at a local pawn shop that look like his stuff, and the name associated with it is the right person. I have to work with two different insurance companies on all of my wheels. The Coupe was never in my name because I bought it when I was 17, and I was still on dad's insurance when I started the engine swap stuff. So, anything associated with the Coupe has to be dealt with by my dad's insurance company. Any of the wheels associated with my A4 or my wife's A6 has to be dealt with by my insurance company. Fun. Not sure where that leaves the engine, since it technically was never installed in the car, and is from a different model Audi. Not sure what insurance company gets to deal with my hoist and stand that was stolen too, but I may end up eating that cost because it may fall under my homeowner policy, which has a deductible higher than the retail value of those two items combined. The Corvette wheels and new tires, no clue, I have adapters to bolt them to the A4 and A6, and even have a picture of them on the A4, but again, I may have to eat that.

So, all of you other project car people, make sure your insurance stuff is squared away on your cars and associated parts. I have a feeling I'll be on the phone a lot.

Darin, so far I am striking out on wheels, so I may be interested in your 17x8's.

So sucks, we should all learn from this and be careful with security and insurance.

Hope you get taken care of as much as possible by all the insurance companies and you get your project back on track and on the road!

As if it's not hard enough without some trash stealing from you.

On a slightly better note, the insurance company that covers the Coupe is going to cover the engine and one set of wheels/tires for sure. On the other hand, my home owners insurance company has basically told me that they view the parts as being associated with a repair shop, not a hobbyist, so I will have to produce records of all the parts and prove to them I am not a repair shop for them to consider a claim (they "don't cover car parts"). I couldn't believe it, and the person I talked to on the phone was, I'm not even sure how to describe it, but it left me with a bad taste in my mouth. So, FYI to you with State Farm for your home owners carrier, do not expect them to cover much of anything. Read read read your policies, talk to your agents and make sure you are protected. Otherwise, buy a junk car, put it in your name, install the parts on it for storage and have it covered with comprehensive coverage, which protects the car during storage. I seriously think I am going to switch insurance companies, either to Progressive (who carries my road worthy cars and trailer) or Erie (who covers my parents cars, motorhome, boat, trailers, house & barns).
