Good choice! You'd think I'd recognize it, that big exhaust housing threw me off!

do you have a spare 4kq around? because i have seen a couple of mockup pictures of your headers, but never seen your 'backup' 4kq, or is this already in your 'signature car'?

I was just going to ask the same thing.. This guys seems sneaky :)

yeah, i got a spare 4k that's sitting here at the shop. hopefully to go to it's new owner in a few weeks. right now i'm swimming in audis.... literally. i just got a 200 20v tqa that i'm gonna put back together because it's mint aside from the front drivers side damage, which isn't that bad.

I was gonna say thats alot of rust to be your signature 4kq. The manifold is lookin great though!

So how is this going to work derek?Stock manifold on the left bank with a cross over pipe into the collector?Your only using a single turbocharger or 2?
derracuda

Post by derracuda »

i cut the original motor mounts out a while back so there's some surface rust on the frame rails, nothing a quick hit with the flapper wheel won't take off.

this is going to be a single turbo... stock mani on the drivers side with a crossover going under the bell housing behind the subframe area. tucked as close as i can.

You mean over the bell housing?
derracuda

last night i got the tig goin and got a little work done, keep in mind prior to this i've tigged maybe a half hours worth of time, so if it's not real pretty, you'll know why :)

Image

i had it all tacked and when i took it off to weld it up... it shrunk! :P so i had to chop the runner to #4 and add a quarter inch ring to bring that runner back out where it should be.

i also changed #4 runner so that i could get the header in and out with the engine in the chassis.

is this the first ever known single turbo Audi V8?
derracuda

Post by derracuda »

possibly to be the first completed one.. there was a guy from AW that was building one, but i haven't seen it finished and heard a rumor that he changed his mind to twin.
