yeah, that was the idea :D. i'm going to take my car to a hydraulic shop up at home, take my plastic car ramps and not come home til' i have some nicely routed hardlines made up with flexible ends.

ok, for right now, the camber plate idea is out. i've just got too much on my plate to deal with figuring out everything so that it works properly. i do have good news though....

taillights

and steering wheel!!
Image

and wires!!! *hugs* :P
Image

blah, there's so many wires!!! here's what i'm doing and why i'm doing it. i'm installing the autocheck system because the 5kt dash cluster doesn't have an oil pressure warning light... and i can't go without that. so the plan is to hook up the few features that my car can incorporate into the autocheck system, and then set up a dummy "ok" signal for all the rest so that the autocheck will still go through it's normal functions and keep me aware of the pertinent ones on my car. plus it'll look cool to have that actually working when the key is turned on and the dash comes to life.

note the bentley and another printed out wiring diagram...
Image

so far i've weeded out about everything i don't need (wipers, radio, center console stuff). i just have to go through one wire at a time and hook it up and test it. i need to actually get power to the dash cluster itself so that as i hook stuff up, i can verify. i did get the fuel level gauge working already :D after this is done, then i have to work the turn signal/combo switch setup into the mix. yay

it's just uber time consuming and not very stimulating, but i know that i need to get it done so that i don't procrastinate and have a bunch of stuff left incomplete when the car is actually on the road.

Is that the steering wheel you got from that one guy? I think I might need to plan for one of those...when I have some money. Looksa pretty-pretty nice!

Is that an Stebro exhaust?
derracuda

Post by derracuda »

yes and yes. the steering wheel is from CAC's paul fernandes of luxembourg (same with the taillights), and the exhaust is infact a stebro. it's nice and quiet.

Looks good Derek,

I'm in the middle of splicing the AAN harness into the urq.
Boring work but important never the less.

Cheers,

yeha, no doubt. the autocheck system would have just been there for the "neat" factor. but as long as i have the oil warning light, i'll be happy :)

and you're welcome 200avant :P

Cool, everyone knocks on Stebro for low quality, but I love mine, sounds awesome.

Looking great, such detail...:)

welll.... i wouldn't rate it the best built quality. if you look at my tailpipes... they hang a bit low, and i can't make them go up any higher because otherwise it will come into contact with the underside of the body. and as for the cannisters, they are just hand welded, nothing really special or fancy. i would say the best thing about a stebro is that they are SS and won't rot out. for some weird reason the one i have is really quiet. my friend has one on his 4kq that's NA and it's way louder, but this same exhaust was on my zermatt car from NC and it was OEM quiet on that car. just odd IMO.

The Stebro with the 7A sounds much different, which I really like. There was a Zermatt 4kq at Carlisle years ago with a Stebro and it was very quiet.

Kind of a pointless post, but ya know 8)

Yep, mine hangs exactly like yours does in the pic,...bugs me a bit but oh well.
Yeah, mine is also, super quiet, sounds a lot like my niegbors' M3...

My Stebro for my CQ was really loud when I got it last year, and got quiet for a while (deafness?), but after I 'blew the carbon out' its back loud and I like it.

I have a feeling some critters may have made a home in there, and I finally got that isht blown all out.

OE center vs Stebro center vs no center also makes a HUGE difference. The stebro on the 7A would set car alarms off in conjunction with the Jamex air filter, and it sounded pretty darn nice. No idea how it will sound on the 7AAN3B mutt.

Now that I have seen Derek's, I now know that my 1985 4KQ had a Stebro exhaust. PO had deleted the cat. This exhaust was rather loud under acceleration and droney during cruise conditions. Maybe it would have been much better with the cat. I am sure it sounds much better with a turbo.

ok, breakthrough! last night i got the tach to work!!! WHOO HOOO. i played around with it for a while before but i missed one ground wire for the tach. there's just so many wires :P so i now have an operation fuel gauge and tach... that's half the display. now for the temp gauge and speedo. maybe i'll get a video of me starting it and revving it a bit :D bbiab..... *runs out to do so*

Awesome video. I really, really like the 5000 turbo clusters. Not sure what it is about them, maybe the faces or the lighting, but they are one of my favorites.

Nice work!
