alrighty.... houston! we have BOOST!!
i was talking to Matt and he said his car wouldn't boost up without the timing being juuuuuust so. so, i wrangled that stinkin' dist. cap off and it was a bit off the mark, centered it up.. bam, it runs great, hits the boost nice and hard, pulls to 21-22psi with the stock 3B spring in it, and i'm lovin' every minute of it
the coolant cap seems to be holding just fine as well.. so hooray on all accounts. last friday just sucked

i drove her again this morning and man.... it's fast. audi was rediculously stupid not to build these things with this engine. i can't wait for a bigger turbo and some chiptacular 034 motronic action.
oh, also, in the news... pretty soon she'll be getting a 2.75" SS exhaust, and a BRAND spankin' new transmission. i found a place selling some NOS stuff from a dealer that went out of bidness, and my trans' 4th gear has wet the bed on hard shifts (grinds). i thought about going 6spd on it, but by the time all's said and done, i'm gonna be $2k or more into that, and blah, i have other things to spend money on right now. a brand new 5spd will be perfect.
also, now that she's back in action, expect to see some drag slips in sept. when i bring her to the Pacific Waterlands show... i'm excited about that.

annnd we have pics
went to the Sun Pacific Waterland show today in woodburn,OR. i took my A6 which got 2nd place, and the zermatt car which got 3rd place....

i woulda been happy to lose to matt, but i saw him slipping judges money....
oh, and there was one judging girl who wasn't quite sure how the points system was arranged... oh, and an allroad got first for the older/other audi class... not really fair comparing a 20 year newer car, but oh well i guess.
anyhow... show pic...

and i also got to race it. two runs, the first one timing got messed up, but the second got it right
(i'm number 323)

speedingG60 kindly gave me his leftover C16 to run and i have a much stiffer boost spring that causes pinging on pump gas, and these 3B cams have got to go... so i'm gonna see about changing the cams this week and go back out thursday with what's left of the race gas

I'm telling you Derek - just get a bunch of stage 3 stickers for under your hood, then you'll win!
That sucks about the zermatt though - I didn't realize what the category was when you told me on the phone. There was no nicer "other" category car there, it's a travesty I tells ya! Some people don't know classic when they see it.

I just feel kinda insulted because Derek's cars are on a whole different level from the cars there. Any jerkstore can just buy an APR stage 3 turbo kit for his A4, put on an RS4 front bumper, and pay some guy to install a big stereo. Plus every jerk out there has A4s. Then they have this super clean, original paint, 26 year old audi that will still hang with a dramatically newer tech car like an S4, and no cred at all. But I guess I must be taking crazy pills, thinking that clean, understated OEM style with a lot of fab work would garner more respect than buying a bunch of parts off a shelf and bolting them together.

perhaps i made my car look too OEM
most people just looked at the engine and went.. "huh" then walked away. a few older guys recognized what was under the hood though, and those guys are the ones that really count

oh well, maybe next year i'll forget the show and run 11's and turn some heads.
Congrats to Matt for beating me with his 200 8)

hey Hank, sorry for not replying to your question.
i don't have any recent pics of the dash, but it hasn't changed much since i put it together... still unfinished (major procrastination, almost as bad as the HID lights).
the wiring was um,... yeah. it's not toooo bad, but do yourself a favor and ditch the autocheck. there's more wires in that then the whole 4kq dash wiring. you'll loose some stuff, but you'll still get the low oil pressure, battery, e-brake, and high beams indicators. the other big thing is making it all fit in there. you have to displace a lot of the stock switches, cut a lot of the dash up, rig the switches and stuff for the column, refit the lower kick panel, etc. it's not really something i'd really like to do again in the near future.

yeah, I wasnt planning on using the auto check. in fact, I was thinking about putting a WB gauge where the warning lights go, and just basically use the speedo, tach, fuel guague, water gauge, and the turn signals. I would probably put the low oil light over where the remote gauge is, and do the same for the voltage drop. If you just made the 5ktq hood and cluster sit on top of the 4k dash, would you need to retrofit to the kick panel, or the steering column like you did? I mean, I am happy with the ignition lock where it is. Basically, I have never had a tach on my URQ, my speedo cable broke, and I need a solution. I have always liked the 5ktq layout. It shouldnt be too bad just rigging up the said above things right?
