That's a good idea. I'll give that a try. thanks.

After testing in VEMS, I just took the car out for a little Saturday afternoon drive. Before doing so, I marked the methanol level on the reservoir. After quite a few wide open throttle pulls, I checked. Yep, it had dropped a good 1/2"-3/4". I checked all the possible areas that could leak and all was well. The car is wicked fast, but does seem a little rich up top now. Time for some tuning and 25+psi!

I have an update coming probably tomorrow, but long story short for now. Went up to Ogden to Brent's shop to put my new tires on. 245/40 Dunlop Direzza IIZ. Crazy, meaty tire. Pics to come. As always, Brent is a trooper. I met Nathan who has been putting together a well sorted CQ. The night didn't go as planned, and it was 1 a.m. when I got home. More to come.

So who wants to hear how my 3" dump sounds like? This 3" downpipe straight out the side of a 3" dump valve. Nothing in between.

Darin, Nate here thanks for the ride back to the shop to get my car. Next day driving up to get my car towed and closed my door i guess too hard and the side airbags deployed seat messed up and entire head liner what a way to end yet another, how should we say, interesting day. Wagon is not at the dealer being looked at but I have a hunch that this is going to cost me.

Got to stay focused feeling a bit gutted at the moment.

Cheers Mate

Now that sounds like a bad day. The airbags went off just slamming the door? That really blows.

Lets get some updates going Darin. :)

The plan Thursday night was to meet up at Brent's shop in Ogden, get the new tires on, alignment, cv boot, install 034 rear tie rods and a few other random things. Nathan has been building a CQ that I'll let him fill in the details on, but he needed to pass emission and inspection and fix a few electrical things. Brent's shop was busy so Nathan and I went for a ride and to get dinner. Pulling into the parking lot of A&W I pulled in too close to a parking curb and smacked it with my bumper. Didn't think anything of it, ripped it up driving back to the shop only to discover when pulling in that when I hit my bumper, it cracked my oil cooler. Oil everywhere. So off came the bumper and bypassed the cooler. Meanwhile, Brent mounted the tires on my gunmetal ABT wheels. 245/40/17 Dunlop Direzza ZII. I put those on while Nathan's car got aligned, then he found out he wasn't getting much oil pressure so a long diagnosis occurred. I got my car aligned and before we realized it, it was after 11:30 and we were beat. So I still have the CV boot and install tie rods, which you have to cut the sway bar mounts off to get to the nut in the subframe. Nathan is pretty discouraged, but hopefully the rides in my car made him motivated enough to keep going.

Today I washed the car for the first time since being painted. I like the gunmetal wheels and these tires are wide!

I'm having Chris CNC some caps to go over the holes with some audi rings. They will be paint matched. Should be awesome!

245/40/17 on 17x8 wheels. 30mm offset with 10mm spacers on the front. I'm going to test fit them with 5mm.

Re: Darin's 80tq...Meth injection stumble...

Post by Audilard »

I think I have a meth injection hiccup going on.

The following happened to me twice today, both times the first time getting into boost and both times happened in similar manners.

Complete stop, 3/4 to full throttle 1st gear acceleration with boost exceeding 14 psi. When shifting into second and continuing 3/4 to full throttle, the engine bogs down as if choking to death. When it happened on my way home from work my intake temps went from 28c to 11c and I'm fairly certain when in first gear I'm hitting my meth criteria, but I get off throttle and shift before it gets into the engine, then when I get back on throttle I've got too much in the intake for the engine to handle.

My meth injection is triggered by two things, first over 14psi boost, and second at least 50% throttle. It only happened twice though, and it was the first time getting into full throttle acceleration after start up. After that it doesn't happen again.

I thought it had to do with warmer outside temps, but the first time happened this morning at 45 degrees, second time this afternoon at 70.

Marc, thoughts?

This is the problem with a basic setup, you are getting 100% injector when you probably only need half that and it's bogging the engine.

You could raise the boost trigger or better yet just spend the money on an aquamist valve and hook it into an injector driver so you always have the correct water to fuel ratio.

Get rid of the 50% throttle and kick it on at 18 psi and see if that makes it more consistent.

I'm tying to find more time to get things done, but seem to have less and less of it everyday.

To Do's
1. CV boot replacement
2. Install rear tie rods
3. Re-install rear sway bar with fabricated mounts
4. front suspension work (ball joints, bearings, strut mounts)
5. driver's window regulator...it's going fast.
6. Tint
7. Other things...

But in the meantime, here is this morning's picture!
