Hank,
Ouch!!! I feel your pain.. Once upon a time I put both my arms in casts and lost lots of skin due to a nasty off road incident. Mine of course was a result of showing off for spectators ... I mean girls....
Seeing the pictures at first I wanted to know how the hell the piston came through the block and firewall.. I figured you were experimenting with lots of boost and thinks let loose..
Get well..
BTW.. I'm about to bolt up the manifold and turbo.. I'll let you know how it runs...
take care

Hank, now is probably not the time to tell you about the new Rekluse auto clutch I put in my bike (AMAZING!!). Or to invite you on the riding we are going to do at the cabin in a couple weeks.... Nah, I'll just leave you to your heart-beating, piston breaking knee.
Bummer man that looks like it REALY hurt. That KTM of daves likes to eat legs eh?

Well, I have been busy this summer building up a new motor. I have hinted in other threads what I have done, but this is the idea that I went with.
-81mm wisecos
-Scats 144mm
-WR block with deck mod to accept 20vt head
-fresh 81mm bores
-balance to .3 grams
-new RS2 coated rod bearings
The mains looked great. Actually all of the bearings looked great except for the piston that took a dump. That bearing looked alright, but it had more wear then i liked, so I replaced them. I was very pleased with the wear for a 20k mile motor that has seen the rev limiter at 8500 a butt load of times.
While I had the motor apart, I took the liberty to replace the friction disk on the fidanza flywheel. I went to just machine it, but it was .060 warped, and When I got it off it tacoed like a half pipe. Incredible really. I am going to get a hold of a 7a flywheel and lighten it for when I put an 01e in soon. I am not convinced that the insert disk is a swell idea if heavy slipping is part of your driving style.
I also relocated my power steering pump. I am really excited about this mod. I was going to make a bracket to sell the the public that would allow you to put it down low and hwere the alternator/ac is on some models. I assumed that alternator would have to be on the passanger side like the 5ktqs, and that the ac would have to be ditched. When I got to the dirtyness of doing it, I realized that the 3rd hole on the water pump puts it darn near where it needs to be. I drilled that hole through the block, and taped it thru with a 8x1.25 tap, and then just made a bushing for the rear. I drilledt he bracked to put an adjuster on it and it is sweet!!!
I made a different IM for this project, and I am going to leave the IC alone for a bit. I want to do a vertical flow unit soon and make a trick IM to match that. So this is pretty temperary. I am going to daily drive the URQ till the snow flies though, as I want to sell my uber nice s6.
Hmmm, what else? Meh, I'll let some pictures do the talking. Oh, and I put a 35r in there....

To answer some questions.
Jacks machine shop in Las Vegas did the machine work. They do good work, and the prices are really reasonable. 150$ got bored and honed with a hot bath/acid dip.
I am running 1000cc injectors and plan to only run e85 from here on out. They will probably run out around 25psi or so, but we will see. I will probably build a dual rail setup soon close to what I built Justin J (90tq) and stage injection with 55lbs primaries.
Darin, evrything in my engine bay is for sale or trade
Thanks Steve and friends. 90 percent of the build for me is seeing what I can do and how I can make things work better. Driving it is pretty fun too.
Jonathan, this is an ebay header still. I love the placement of where it puts the turbo. It is easy to run a fullsize airfilter with the 4" 90 bend from ATP turbo. It is an easy fit. Anything bigger than a 35r is probably going to hit the hood though . I have about an inch to spare. The quality of these headers is pretty good after the flanges are addressed. If I built a header from stratch, I would mimick the runners and general location.
The only reason it didnt run today is because I went gauge crazy this time around, and I went to an electronic fuel pressure gauge and ruined my adapter to my FPR. Thursday should be the day.
Dad, David's STI is looking really good. We drove it a little bit today. With the 30r, he is seeing full boost by about 3500. It sounds brutal too with the equal length headers and open exhaust. Faster? Doubt it!! He needs a bottom end first!
