Holy chit, just read up on all the info Wiley (WRC) posted for tranny swaps... that ain't gonna be happening for a loooooong time. If I get really sick of the highway gearing I'll get an 01a from a 20v 200.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but I told you so ;)

First rule of thumb when beating on an 016, have a tow strap in the boot and a good friend!

Hank

:metoo: ...i got lucky i didnt grenade mine with the hx40.

my bet is that you weren't making enough torque with the HX40 to run into problems.

The 01e swap isn't terrible, just requires a different flywheel, clutch, mounts and transmission. What sucks is if you have spent coin on a 016 clutch and flywheel setup. Then you double purchase, which hurts.

and the 200 20vt had 016's as well Matt. They have basicall the same strength as what your 4kq box has. An 01a would be a weaker box overall and require 95% of the work an 01e would require

Love your car Ben! You and Phil of recent (among others previously) have convinced me I need to be buying a backup 016 here soon  You must be making some pretty good power now! Get it on a dyno, we want to know :)

Nice Ben! Get a six speed! The 6th gear makes the drive to BBQ sooo nice!

Ya, the swap shouldn't be bad at all. Just need a whole trans with the shift rods and box. Darin, looks like I won't be 5857 before BBQ, but at least I will be 6spd. Here are the pictures of the damage, OH and before anyone asks, this happened at around 90mph in fifth at about 15ish pounds of boost. I was pacing my brother in his Cooper S, so I wasn't even going full throttle or anything. Anyways, I will let the pictures do the talking now...

so... you don't need all this? bolded are things that I see that are not absolutely necessary for a car with an AAN. What's the deal with the axles? Wider trans? And I suppose one could use any AAN DMF flywheel, wouldn't have to be a 7a.

From here: http://www.motorgeek.com/viewtopic.php? ... &start=275
Other progress: I've collected pretty much all the parts I need to swap the 01E into the 4kqt.

Here's my parts list:
- 01E
- 7A Flywheel
- 01E/01A Clutch Disc
- B3 Axles (Swap outer CV from 4kq)
- Pilot & Throw-out Bearings
- 034 RS2 Tranny Mounts
- 5ktq Gauges (not required)
- 5ktq Speedo Sender (not required & will require me to tap the tranny case)
- urs4/s6 shift linkage (short arm with ball)
- urs4/s6 reverse lockout cage
- 034 4kq/urs4/s6 short shifter (I already own this, but will need to turn it so the reverse lockout arm is on the drivers side)
- B4 front subframe (You could also just add a spacer to the drivers side)

Hank now makes stuff for the swap to take care of the axles and mounts, not sure about the rest yet. I still need to do my homework on it.

Don't worry John, Oceanic will survive to BBQ4 and hopefully long after as well! :P

Oh I'm not worried.....it's just that I've never seem windows in gearboxes like that. Is that for cooling since you know that Vegas gets pretty hot at times?

HAHA Well, this is me eating my own words. :punch: Unfortunately my cooling modification only lasted 20 miles. Well, on the bright side I will be 01E before BBQ4.

Here's my parts list:
- 01E
- 7A Flywheel
- 01E/01A Clutch Disc and pressure plate
- Two front passenger axles with IMS spacer on passengerside
- Pilot & Throw-out Bearings from 01e along with 01a/01e slave
- IMS RS2 Tranny Mounts
- Tap the cover for Mechancial speedo
- urs4/s6 shift linkage
- IMS crossover linkage plage
- urs4/s6 reverse lockout cage
- 034 4kq/urs4/s6 short shifter (I already own this, but will need to turn it so the reverse lockout arm is on the drivers side)

That is pretty much the bulk of it edited slightly ;) . Let me know what you need Ben.

SO just to clarify, for my set up (because I am 5 lug swapped) I am going to need another drivers side rear axle to make this work. I will place an order with you sometime this week Hank. :)
