"monty" the fd mazda

Post by sly7monty »

Hey everyone! I didn't see a intro thread anywhere so I thought I would just introduce myself on my project thread. My name is zach and I am a resident of the great state of oregon. I am new to forums and I am a beginner in terms of wrenching abilities but I am a car guy all the way around, my profession is selling cars at legacy chrysler jeep dodge ram, not exactly the brand I want to be selling but it pays the bills and I get to drive brand new cars all day (not a bad gig) I own two mazda rx7s one is a 1986 fc3s that I was going to build then I got backed into by a truck so I said screw it I will get a legendary fd. So after some negotiations with my wife I started looking for one. I scanned every outlet I could find in a google search as well as the regular places (autotrader, cars.com, craigslist) after a couple months of looking and some trouble with the financial bit I finally found one 1000 miles away in CA. It took a month of planning and a lot of paper work to get it but it finally arrived about a week ago. You can see how dirty it was from its long journey in the pictures but it was here and that is all that mattered, I had finally obtained the car that inspired me as a kid in middle school that sparked my Interest in cars in the first place. However I bought it with the knowledge that I would have to rebuild the car before it was drivable. According to the previous owner it had a bad water jacket seal, bad turbos and a bent rear control arm so there it sat for a few hours till I got off work and could tow it home. So with the help of my good friend 85oceanic and his 2003 4.2 a6 it was finally in my garage. Took of the fmic and the radiator that night and then had to call it quits for the evening.

P.S if you look at the driver side rear you can see that the wheel is crooked cause of that bent control arm. haha

Looks like a nice project and welcome. I'm a huge fan of rotary cars ( I have a 74 rx4 project) and would love to get my hands on an fd. What are your plans for the car?

Yeah buddy! Good to see pu in here Zach. I'm very excited to see the progress of this car. From what you've told me, this will be a very nice save/revival.

Glad to be here! As far as plans go... eventually streetport the engine put 3mm apex seals in and i want to go big single someday. but for now but for now 85oceanic and graygoose89 helped me pick out a nice set of turbos that bolt in and are good to 400whp they are bnr stage3 turbos that are a direct bolt in and can run sequentially like the factory turbo set up which will get me by till i can get a standalone setup. Ultimately I have plans to achieve around 500+whp and dd the car. (risky move in a rotary engine i know) lol
