Here's a picture..no real update though, sorry. We have plenty of catching up to do here. It's going to be down to the wire, and it's still too close to tell if it'll make it to Carlisle or not...

Thanks Ed, I'm pretty damn happy right now!

I'll be sure to get some video a little later. Now that she's alive, I'd better get to updating this thread, huh?

Shawn nailed it - pre-Caslisle hustle turned into post-Carlisle motivation and no updates.

Here goes...

I left off frustrated by the choice made by a FIC employee to not replace my pintle caps. The new ones came in from Injector-Rehab, so I carefully cut the old ones off with a razor knife, then simply heated and pressed the new caps on with an appropriately sized socket. Not difficult enough of a task to warrant not replacing the 50 cent part...

Ok, holy crap...I've done way too much since the last update. How's a show and tell sound? I'll show you a bunch of pictures, you tell me if you have any questions or comments. I'll fill in details later.

Thanks guys :)

This doesn't make me smile or drool...

4/6 8an swivel seal hose ends are leaking out of the sealing ring hole and from the neck of the fitting end of the hose end. They aren't leaking from the threads though. I'm afeered to tighten it any more, since I initially gave what I felt was appropriate torque (shouldn't really take much), they leaked, gave em a bit more, then figured I'd better wait and call the manufacturer. All of my 6an ends seem ok as of right now, and 2 of my 8an's look good too. This is where they are at now - thoughts? I have a call in to the giant that is Holley performance, Earl's division, so we'll see what they say.

Taking a minute out of the work day to say that earl's would replace these hose ends, but they need them in their possesion before I can get replacements...that's good and bad. It runs, so I want it driving!&^%$*@# I wish I knew why these hose ends were leaking. I don't want to replace them and have the problem be a manufacturing defect and put me right back at square one. I am wishing I had gone with hard line right now...

Thanks!

As for the fitting/hose end connections, I've tightened them a bit more as suggested by one tech support guy I spoke with yesterday. No luck. I then drained the lines and noted some imperfections on the mating surfaces, looks like it's my fault. So I'm ordering a number of conical seals and replacement fittings in hopes of resolving the issue without replacing the hose assembly(s). There are quite a few leaks, all from the mechanical seals, and I'm a bit frustrated by it. I'm pretty particular, and inspected each hose end and fitting prior to installation, oh well.

Also, she idled on the ragged side (brief stints for now due to the fuel leaks), so I pulled the plugs for inspection. Cylinder 5 did not appear to be getting any fuel, and all of the others were coated. Popped em back in, started it, pulled the electrical connector from cylinder 5, no audible change. So I went to bed.

Image

I'm going to check the connection from the injector to the ecu today once I'm back home.

Lastly, while doing that, I noticed a flash through the phenolic spacer on cylinder 4, thought that was strange.

I appreciate all input you guys may have, thanks

Wow holy crap lots of work up in here. Good to meet you at Carlisle ("i'm toph!" lol). Most likely a simple reason it's not getting fuel.

I honestly appreciate the compliments coming from this group.

Matt- There aren't too many Toph's, so I can get away with it as a screenname :) and you were right, it was easy to figure out. I hooked up my check engine light and performed the output tests. Injectors 1, 2, 4 all clicked, nothing on 5, 3 clicked. #5 injector showed 15.4ohms resistance terminal to terminal, and through the boot side of the connector when plugged in as well. So I made a test light from a bulb socket in my old 200 20v harness, made that the #5 injector, test, and it lit up. On the last test I could hear #5 trying to click, but it was extremely faint. Then to be extra sure it wasn't the wiring, I swapped the connectors for injector 4 and 5, and nothing happened when cylinder 4 was triggered (plugged in to injector #5). Odd that it passed the FIC bench testing...Looks like I need a new injector STAT.

hmmmm. backfires like that usually lend themselves to being timing related.

From the looks of those plugs, I'd say she's runnin' a bit rich ;)

I'm going to look for an injector for you in the morning. Will report back.

Hank - that's what had me a bit nervous about it. Everything is in time though as far as the marks are concerned, only thing I didn't check is the relative timing of the cams. This engine supposedly has 10k on it since the timing belt had been done. I'll keep an eye on it once I get a functioning injector. I guess that's a handy feature of the phenolic spacer haha

Chris, I think I found a set locally, thanks though :) She's definitely rich according to the plugs. I have only run the car a few times for about 20 to 30 seconds, so I'm not too surprised that they look like that.

Thanks to the fuel injector situation, I turned my attention to the interior of the coupe. It was platinum gray when I got it, but I found a black interior locally and scooped it up. So now it's black and looks much better. I still have to finish installing the parcel shelf, ebrake surround, and glove box, then the floor trims once I'm done crawling around in there, and lastly the seats. Shouldn't take too much longer. Had to stop to refuel, and I'm getting right back after it.

3b ecu fits up in behind the hvac, and can just barely be removed and reinstalled

Installed my replacement voltmeter in the parcel shelf since I had to remove it from the stock location for more important things ;)
Lights up red, wired to shut off on the lower light settings (working range is 5 volts - 24v, the audi interior light range is from around 9volts down to 3.5ish volts, so it works great)

Getting there...

I plan to get a red bulb for the odd one out, and of course it dims with the others

nice! At least the b5 one looks better than the URS ones. Does yours say s4? I think i have two a4 ones, so no "S4" on them. I need to change out mine in my A4 too.

Yeah, this one is from Tim's s4. Do the a4 ones still have the sport badge, just no etched in 's4'? If it's 'badgeless' I may consider it....
