Also, 20vt motors are not that bad, turbo is much higher along with the exhaust etc.
20vt with stock manifold place the exhaust very low and close to both mount, starter and even the oil filter housing.
Ur-q even came with a funky shield for the starter and motor mount as well as the oil filter housing, to protect them from all that heat.

Cheers

Thx for the info Martin! Justin is the only one I've seen melt one of these and that was on a 20vt, so that makes sense

da_trem wrote:ED, with all the power and revs you got, is your motor balanced?..its not mentioned in your specs.

Yes, the motor was balanced by Dave Jones during the rebuild.

Updated to 1.2.9 and got on the dyno again last night... hit fuel cut immediately. I need to sit down and figure out the new boost controller because even when set to use RPM vs DC for the reference lookup, it is overboosting like crazy. Nevermind trying the new boost target based reference lookup (WTF is the Y axis??). Had to take my n75 DC down to 8% to get it under control. It seems like it may be referencing the closed loop boost targets despite the fact that the PID controller is OFF (all set to 0)???

Anyways, it did 560whp/501wtq on the first clean pull that we got, and that was at about .75 lambda. Tried to make some tweaks then BAM.

Time for a wiggens clamp on the compressor outlet and solid piping.

Damn kid... That's some powah!!! That over boosting probably accelerated the process though...

The mods never end at this stage... Sigh

Well, fuel cut was set at 340kpa so it didn't exceed that. A 4-ply silicone hose should be able to hold that no problem, it was just a crappy/defective hose I guess. OBX-R brand (it was the 'R' version!! )

I'm gonna get a vanjen clamp for that spot, only $100 for the clamp, yayyy

Nice Ed.

That is why I have sworn off silicone and just went to Vanjens, Hargetts (NLA I guess :/) or Wiggens.

Bought a 2.5" vanjen for the compressor outlet. The Hargetts are just as expensive if not more so for the 3-piece clamps. What makes you think they're NLA?

Nice numbers Ed. You still running the SB SSX/JB combo? How's it holding up to this torture?

Installed a Vanjen clamp on the compressor outlet and hard pipe to get rid of the silicone, boost is BACK.

These clamps are freaking awesome. Uber high quality components, the flanges have a nice machined lip that mates to the pipe for welding. And I can't believe how much movement they allow...crazy.

Yo Ed.. heard you had a tune switching switch with a key lockout... what did you end up with? Thinking it is a good idea for various reasons and was curious... seems like I might be heading down the E85 slope.
